Erasmo Vidal, 61, suddenly passed away on Tuesday 11th October, 2022 after a cardiac arrest.

According to reports, Erasmo passed on at the Club Hipico de Santiago in Chile after suffering hypovolemic shock leading to the cardiac arrest.

He was found dead at the Chilean oldest racecourse in an enclosure by a security staff.

Before he was confirmed dead, paramedics were contacted, who rushed to the scene to provide immediate medical help.

Before an ambulance could arrive to remedy the situation, it was reported that Erasmo’s condition worsened, leading to his demise.

His son’s football club, Flamengo, also confirmed the incident, stating their regret and condoling the bereaved family.

“We regret to inform you about the death of Erasmo Vidal, father of our player Arturo Vidal. We wish him strength at this difficult moment”, the club’s statement read.

Arturo Vidal reportedly owns horses used for the racecourse and it is his late father that has been taking care of the horses.

His father died while taking care of the horses and according to local media reports, Erasmo died while at the racecourse.

As well as the news of the sudden death, the reaction of Arturo Vidal to his father’s death and burial can be said to be baffling.

The 35-year-old former Barcelona and Inter Milan star, who joined Brazilian top-flight side Flamengo on a free transfer in July, did not comment on his father’s death till the burial.

Vidal stayed in Brazil and watched the funeral live on Instagram as his sister uploads them.

According to reports, Arturo Vidal failed to attend the burial because he wanted to play for Flamengo in the Brazilian cup final on Thursday.

This came after he had reportedly informed his club that he will not return to his home city, Santiago in Chile to join his family and pay last respect to his late father.

Arturo Vidal was used as a substitute in the cup final, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

The fact that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder watched his dad’s funeral live on Instagram so that he could play in the Brazilian cup final baffled a couple of his fans for prioritizing his career over his family.

Despite not attending the funeral, Vidal later broke down in tears as he watched his father given the last respect in Chile.

Ahead of the game, Vidal had posted on social media: ‘Daddy, today I’ll miss your good luck message before the match.

‘But I know that you’ll be supporting us from Heaven. We’ll win this cup and the next one for you and for everyone who supports me on a daily basis.’

Vidal also shared funeral procession on his Instagram story.

Arturo Vidal has played for the likes of Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

He moved to Brazilian giants Flamengo in July after leaving Inter.

In the Chilean media, there have been reports that the relationship between Arturo Vidal and his late father, Erasmus, was virtually non-existent and strained.
