Gareth Southgate has seen a lot of dislike from England fans as they want him sacked before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after they lost 1-0 to Italy on Friday, September 23.
Following his team’s 1-0 loss to Italy in the Nations League on Friday, Southgate faced criticism from both the British press and fans.
After confusing supporters with his starting lineup and leaving out in form AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori, his team further perplexed the fans with a shambolic performance.
Hence, a few English supporters appear to be fed up with the 52-year-old and want him gone before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
They are reportedly backing former Paris Saint Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino to succeed Southgate. Since PSG sacked the Argentine coach before the commencement of this season, the coach has remained unemployed.
Pochettino had handled Southampton and Tottenham during his managerial career in England, so it goes without saying that he is familiar with the English game.
Note that Pochettino, 50, has only had management experience with club teams. However, the thought of him heading England hasn’t deterred fans.
Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate OBE, an English professional football manager and former player who played as a defender and midfielder, was born on September 3, 1970. Since 2016, he has served as the England national team’s manager.
Southgate led Crystal Palace to the First Division title in 1993–94 and shared the League Cup with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, respectively, in 1995–96 and 2003–04 as a player.
Additionally, he represented Villa in the 2000 FA Cup Final and Middlesbrough in the 2006 UEFA Cup Final. Between 1995 and 2004, Southgate played 57 times for the England squad.
He participated in every match of England’s 1996 European Championship campaign, however his missed penalty eliminated England before the semifinals. He also participated in the 2000 European Championships and the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
At the age of 35 and more than 500 league appearances later, his playing career came to an end in May 2006.
Southgate led Middlesbrough as manager from June 2006 to October 2009. Prior to succeeding Sam Allardyce as manager of the England national team in 2016, he also served as manager of the England under-21 squad from 2013 to 2016.

Southgate won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach Award for leading the England team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup semifinals, making him only the third manager (after Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson) to accomplish this feat.
He was the first England manager to lead his team to a major tournament championship since 1966 at UEFA Euro 2020. England ultimately fell to Italy in a penalty shootout.

After three years at Middlesbrough, after being demoted he was sacked. He also had an unsatisfactory early exit from the 2015 U21s Euros with England.
Build up to 2022 World Cup
Following a 10-0 victory against San Marino in November 2021, Southgate guided England to World Cup qualification.
The following week, he agreed to a new deal that would keep him as England manager through December 2024. Southgate guided England into the UEFA Nations League for the 2022–23 season in March 2022.
England entered the competition winless after four games, including a 4-0 loss to Hungary on June 14, 2022. Since 1928, this was the nation’s worst home loss.
