Last week Friday, September 9, the Premier League, EFL, WSL, and SPFL all agreed to call off their weekend football matches following the immediate demise of the London Queen, and the decision was made by the leagues as a sign of respect.

However, the Queen’s funeral is on Monday 19 September 2022, and Premier League has confirmed that tributes will be paid to The Queen through football actions at all stadiums in Premier League Matchweek 8.

The Premier League issued this announcement on Monday, September 12 confirming via their official website that matches will resume.

Out of the ten matches scheduled for match week 8 which commences on Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 18, three matches have been postponed due to huge policing demands of the Queen’s funeral.

The Premier League has summed up the plans for the upcoming premier league matches this week and postponed the three matches considering police staffing resources that are being reallocated to the Queen’s funeral on September 19.

According to the Premier League Statement: “Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups, and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.”
