English Premier League giants Chelsea have finally reached an agreement with Barcelona for Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang. The two clubs reached a €14m agreement, Xabi Alonso included, on the backdrop of a reported burglary attack that has left the Gabon international injured.
Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang may likely return to the Premier League, flying the blue stripes of Chelsea after the Todd Boehly-led club reportedly reached a €14 agreement with Barcelona, with Xabi Alonso included, for the former Borussia Dortmund forward. Recall that Aubameyang, on Monday 29 September, was attacked in his home by arm-bearing burglars. He has been reportedly injured in the attack, but it is unclear whether his wife and children, who were also affected by the crisis, have equally sustained injuries.
Before the attack, Chelsea and Barcelona were locked up in negotiations as Todd Boehly ramped up attempts to sign a new striker. While Barcelona were still holding out at €25m, Chelsea pegged the 33-year-old Arsenal star at €20m.
Aubamenyang had only spent eight months with the Catalan club since arriving from Arsenal. Barcelona’s new signings have made it difficult for Auba to break into Xavi Hernandez’s starting lineup. The likes of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund and Raphinha are Xavi Hernandez’s top choices for La Liga matches. Aubamenyang has appeared for only 8 minutes in La Liga match for the Catalans this season.
After Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner returned to Leipzig, Todd Boehly has indicated internet in signing a front-line striker, and Aubamenyang has been on his radar.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has finally agreed in principle to sign Aubamenyang. Fabrizio confirmed that a “full agreement is now sealed between Pierre-Emerick Aubamemyang, his camp, and Chelsea over the contract.”
The renowned transfer expert added that Chelsea and the Catalan club are still negotiating to put finishing touches to Auba’s deal before the transfer deadline today, Thursday, 1 September 2022.
The Blues have reportedly reached a two-year contract agreement with Aubmenyang with an option of a one-year extension. The former Borussia Dortmund striker has had a stint with Arsenal but had to leave the club after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
It has been revealed that his injury sustained during the burglary attack may likely weigh on his chances of sealing a move to Chelsea but that was not to be. He has been ruled out for three weeks as he nursed the injury.
Aubamenyang has made 24 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 13 goals since joining the club in January 2022. He will be Chelsea’s seventh signing this season after the likes of Wesley Fofana from France, Raheem Sterling from England, Kalidou Coulibaly from Napoli, Carney Chukwuemwka from Aston Villa, Cucurella from Brighton, and Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan.
