Patrice Evra has blasted Manchester United’s transfer policy and the dragging Frenkie de Jong’s deal. The former Manchester United left-back expressed doubts over Manchester United’s recruitment policy as the transfer window winds down.
Manchester United have struggled with their target signings, with Casemiro being the last addition to the squad after the signings of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez.
The Red Devils have pulled out of some potential transfer targets, such as Adrien Rabiot and Marko Arnautovic. Erik Ten Hag called off Adrien Rabiot’s bid due to the outrageous wage gap demanded by her mother, Veronique Rabiot. Veronique Rabiot had demanded a whooping £240,000 weekly wages for her son as part of the terms of the personal agreement. The Red Devils immediately called off Rabiot’s deal and communicated the same to Juventus.
Adrien Rabiot has a year remaining in his Juventus contract and will leave as a free agent next summer.
Similarly, John Murtough had difficulty progressing with the proposed Marko Arnautovic deal. Man United fans had opposed the deal after details of Marko Arnautovic’s racist attitudes at FC Twente emerged.
Before pursuing the above two deals, the Red Devils indicated an interest in signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. The former Ajax midfielder, who was under the tutelage of Erik Ten Hag, was expected to accept a reunion with Erik Ten Hag despite Manchester United’s lack of Champions League football.
So far, there are no green lights from the Dutchman amidst Man United’s interest. The Red Devils have reached a £72m agreement with Barcelona, but de Jong has insisted on staying at Camp Nou. Chelsea are also interested in the midfielder as Barcelona wants to cash in on the player to leverage their financial quagmire.
Despite deviating for a while from de Jong to broker a deal with another holding midfielder, Casemiro, the Red Devils have reportedly returned to the deal, hoping to push for a move.
Patrice Evra Blasts Man United Transfer Policy and Frenkie de Jong’s Deal
Manchester United’s ups and downs in the transfer market have been the subject of football bulletins as Pundits try to weigh their Man United’s strengths and weaknesses in the transfer markets. Former Man United left-back, Patrice Evra, has weighed into the situation at Old Trafford as the transfer window closes soon.
According to Evra, making frantic efforts to bring in new players to the squad may not solve Manchester United’s problems, with the club appearing to be desperate to beat the transfer deadline.
“Buying players in the heat of desperation is not good. Players should have been bought before preseason,” he said.
Evra slammed Erik Ten Hag’s complacency during the preseason after Manchester United picked good results against opponents.
“During the preseason Ten Hag would have thought that all is okay with the squad, but that was not the case”, the Manchester United legend said.
“If you look at Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, or Chelsea, they are in better shape than Man United, and de Jong will want to go there than Manchester United.”
Patrice Evra made 278 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 7 goals with 21 assists. The 41-year-old Frenchman retired from Football in July 2019
Manchester United hosts Liverpool today, Monday, August 22, 2022, and will hope to bounce back from the opening back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.
