Former coach of Tottenham Hotspur Mauricio Pochettino says his dream is to return to the North London club before he dies to finish what he started at the club.

The Argentine tactician joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2014. He helped the club to land in the UEFA Champions League final, 2018-2019 season, but lost the title to Liverpool.

There were high hopes that the 48-year-old former Southampton coach would do better in the 2019-2020 season but that was not the case. The club started the season struggling to the point that they found themselves far below top four on the league table.

Tottenham had to let him go in November 2019 but the club has to keep paying him until he gets another job probably at the end of the interrupted season. He was replaced by Jose Mourinho.

In a recent interview he had with BT Sport, Pochettino said during the over 5 years at Tottenham, he was building something at the club and he would like to return there to finish it.

He stressed that no matter how long it takes him, he would want to return to the club before he dies and win a title at the club for the fans.

“It was an amazing journey that finished the way no one wanted it to finish,” he said.

“But deep in my heart, I am sure our paths will cross again. From the day I left the club, my dream is to be back one day and to try to finish the work we didn’t finish. We were so close to winning the Premier League and Champions League.

“But of course I am looking forward to moving on and I am so motivated for the next project.

“But deep inside I want to go back because the fans are so special. Maybe in five years, maybe in 10 years, but before I die I want to manage Tottenham.

“I want to feel what it means to win one title with Tottenham because the fans are amazing, all the love we received was amazing and that is a good opportunity to pay back all the love they showed us from day one.”

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly the top choice on the minds of the Saudi-backed consortium who are likely to take over the ownership of Newcastle before the commencement of a new football season.

According to reports, the Argentine tactician would earn £19 million a year as the manager of the club. But the Premier League has to approve the takeover before Pochettino can have such an amazing offer.
