After the exit of Antonio Rudiger and an abysmal preseason outing by the Blues, Todd Boehly has come under a barrage of criticisms for his approach to the transfer market.

Todd Boehly Under Attack for Transfer Blunders

Recall that Todd Boehly decided to take charge of Chelsea transfer decisions after the resignation of the former Chelsea Sporting Director Marina Gran. Marina Granovskaia resigned following in the footsteps of Chairman Bruce Bucks. The duo tendered their resignation after Todd Boehly assumed full ownership of the club, taking over from Roman Abramovich.

The LA Dodgers owner took over as the interim sporting director of Chelsea, overseeing transfer decisions. Since taking over Chelsea’s transfer policy role, Todd Boehly has come under heavy criticism for his seemingly naive and uninformed approach to the transfer market.

The Blues were the least active among top Premier League clubs, who were raiding the transfer market to beef up their squad against next season. Former Chelsea legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech also resigned from his role as Technical and Performance Advisor due to the influence of Todd Boehly.

Pundits had wondered how a businessman will suddenly turn into a transfer chief without blundering in the market. However, it appears the renewal of the contract by Cezar Azpilicueta has vindicated the American.

Todd Boehly immediately reacted after the confirmation of Cezar Azpilicueta’s contract extension with the club. He expressed his gratitude to the Spaniard for showing exemplary leadership and choosing to stay with the club.

Todd Boehly was quick to welcome the Spaniard onboard after falling out of a deal with Sevilla’s Kounde, who chose to join Barcelona.

“We are thrilled with our captain showing his exemplary leadership and commitment once again. There is still much to do together”, he said.

Cezar Azpilicueta Reacts to new deal

Azpilicueta has reacted to his new contract renewal with the Blues. The 32-year-old Spaniard, who is one of the oldest players in the squad expressed his excitement and optimism about the new deal. According to him, he is optimistic about his continuing adventure with the Blues and is proud to captain the team.

“I am really looking forward to continuing our adventure. I am a really proud captain and I hope we can share many good memories together”, he said.

César Azpilicueta: Vindicating Todd Boehly?

Cezar Azpilicueta represents a generation of Chelsea old players, a bastion and relic of the bygone and swept-off era of Roman Abramovich.

Azpilicueta joined the Blues in 2012 from the French side Marseille. He has won the Premier League, EFL Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Super Cup, and Fifa Club World Cup with the club.

Azpilicueta has been capped 476 times throughout his ten years at Chelsea. With Azpilicueta’s contract renewal, Todd Boehly cannot be written off. With more targets on the radar, the LA Dodgers owner can prove a point to impatient Blues supporters.

Azpilicueta have signed a 2-year-contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2024.
