The English team had to sack their former manager, Sean Dyche even before the end of last season and the role was given to Mike Jackson as a caretaker boss. Mike Jackson was unable to keep Burnley in the English Premier League, hence, he had to step down.

Jackson’s dismissal left the role vacant for Vincent Kompany to fill. Kompany will be joining Burnley ahead of next season. Hence, his relationship with Belgian First Division side R.S.C Anderlecht where he has been for the last three years is over.

The Manchester City legend joined Anderlecht in 2019 as a player-manager before he was promoted to a full-time manager in August 2020.

Kompany went on to end his first season as a full-time manager in fourth place even though the team had the youngest average age in the Belgian league.

He led the team to a third-place finish in the 2021/22 season. He also took the team to the Belgian Cup final and earned the team a European qualification.

Going to Burnley means going back to the country where he spent 11 years with Manchester City and left as a club legend.

Note that Kompany joined Manchester City in 2008 and captained the team to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four EFL Cups.

He was also captain of the Belgium national team for 7 years and was part of the team which made it to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals in Russia.

While speaking about his move to Burnley, Kompany said; “Burnley Football Club is a truly historic English side and it is an honor to be appointed first-team manager,”.

“I’m excited by the challenge ahead. “I’m looking forward to getting to work with the players and creating a positive, winning team for our fans when we return to Turf Moor.

”I’ve been impressed by the Board’s vision for the club which aligns with my own and I look forward to playing my part as we enter an important season.”

While the club’s chairman Alan Pace said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Vincent to Burnley Football Club.

“Vincent is a proven leader and I’ve been very impressed with his ideas for Burnley Football Club, his appetite to succeed, and his focus on leading the club back to the Premier League.

“Vincent has shown impressive credentials in leading one of Belgium’s biggest teams back to European football and a Cup Final last season and we’ve been excited by his philosophy, approach, and ambition for the Club.”.
