Manchester City and Ukrainian left-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko, has informed the club that he wants to leave because of his ambition of becoming a midfielder.

Zinchenko said that his new club must promise to play him as a midfielder and not a defender. The Ukrainian star player has been playing a vital role for the Man City squad at the back of the team. During this period, Pep Guardiola plays him as a left-back even though he started his career up in the field.

With only two years left on his contract at Manchester City, the 25-year-old is also ready to extend it. Zinchenko has made it clear that he’s happy at City and that was why he didn’t accept a move to Wolves in 2018.

According to him, he wanted to stay back and fight for his place and he is getting more playing time now than in other seasons. However, he’s fighting for the left-back position with Portuguese Cancelo and it could be why he wants to move forward in the squad.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is also considering leaving Etihad stadium if a new club brings an offer that will have him play in the midfield position. According to reports, he also needs more playing time and he’s used to the midfield position which he plays for Ukraine.

The Manchester City team has a lot of options in midfield and it’s unlikely that they will grant Oleksandr Zinchenko’s wish. Other teams are likely to accept the switch and try to sign Zinchenko in the next summer transfer. Some of the English teams interested in signing Zinchenko are Arsenal, Everton, Leicester, West Ham, and Wolves.

These teams have reached out to his reps but no fee has been announced yet. Clubs from Germany, France, Italy, and Spain have also made enquires about the Ukrainian star player and it still depends on Man City’s decision. Zinchenko is valued at about £30m.

Zinchenko played an important role in helping Man City win the 2021/22 premier league title. He was subbed on in the second half of their last game against Aston Villa. Man City were already 2-0 down until Gundogan made it 2-1 from a Raheem Sterling’s cross.

The team became alive again as they continued to push forward. Zinchenko dribbled past an Aston Villa player to get the ball to Rodri who sent the ball into the net. Gundogan scored again after Kevin De Bruyne gave him a perfect cross.
