Barcelona recently made contact with AC Milan winger, Rafael Leao through his super-agent Jorge Mendes. Initial reports thought Barca was meeting Jorge Mendes for Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid, but news reaching Futballnews revealed that Joan Laporta, Barca president met with Jorge Mendes at an undisclosed location over Rafael Leao due to his excellent performance for AC Milan this season.
Rafael Leao, the former Sporting CP player was impressive in AC Milan’s title-winning season where he hit double figures in goals and assists across all competitions for AC Milan.
His excellent form helped AC Milan secure the league title. A player with massive pace and trickery skills needed to beat his opponents; no doubt Rafael Leao showed class and that he can be one of the very best shortly.
It is said that Joan Laporta would like to make a move for him this summer, but due to the financial difficulties of the club right now, a move for him seems unlikely. With his contract expiring in June 2024, AC Milan Football club are preparing to offer him a mouth-watering salary to keep off potential suitors from trying to get a hold of him.
News broke out recently that there has been a takeover at the club after the Red Bird Capital partners agreed to purchase the football club for a sum of $1.3billion.
The US-based company managed by Gerard Cardinale has around $6billion in assets and is also a major stakeholder of the FSG (Fenway Sports Group), the owner of Liverpool Football Club. The takeover is expected to be completed later this year.
Rafael Leao reportedly has a market value of €40m. A fee of around $100m might tempt AC Milan into selling him this summer as they look to balance their books.
