Argentine forward, Carlos Tevez has confirmed that he had to retire from professional football because his number one fan, his father, had died.
Tevez started his football career at a Brazilian club known as All Boys in the early 90s but started his professional football career at Boca Juniors on January 1, 2002.
Afterward, he joined Corinthians on January 1, 2005, for a transfer fee worth €15 million. From there, Tevez flew to the Premier League in England when West Ham United signed him for a transfer fee worth €14.60 million on August 31, 2006.
A season after, Carlos Tevez joined Manchester United on a two years loan from West Ham United. After the two years loan, he joined Manchester City on a permanent deal on July 14, 2009, for a transfer fee worth €29 million.
He played at City until 2013 before he decided to join Juventus on July 1, 2013, for a transfer fee worth €9 million. Carlos Tevez played at Juventus until July 11, 2015, when he decided to return to Boca Juniors for a transfer fee worth €6.50 million.
Tevez spent a season at a Chinese Super League, SH Shenhua, for a transfer fee worth €10.50 million before he returned to Boca Juniors on January 6, 2018, on a free transfer fee.
On June 4, 2021, Tevez announced that he would leave Boca Juniors because he was “physically fit to continue but not mentally”. He also added that he had to retire because of the death of his father who he referred to as his number one fan.
“I have retired, it is confirmed,” Carlos Tevez said in an interview with America TV on Friday night. “They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything.
“Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”

Before Tevez confirmed his retirement, the 38-year-old Argentine footballer scored a total of 237 club goals and provided 108 assists in 607 games in all competitions.
While in international football, Carlos Tevez scored 13 goals in 76 games in all competitions for Argentina’s national team.
