Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah seem not to be on the same page when it comes to the concept of “revenge” ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League final clash with Real Madrid on May 28, 2022.

The final which will kick off at 20:00 on Saturday is the second Champions League final match between Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Real Madrid in four years.

Recall that Liverpool and Real Madrid met in the Champions League final in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital in 2018. After a tense encounter, Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1.

During the final, Real Madrid former defender, Sergio Ramos inflicted an injury on Mohamed Salah who was Liverpool’s best player on the pitch during that era.

Then, it was believed that Real Madrid prepared legendary Ramos to tactically injure Salah early in the game to weaken Liverpool’s attack. Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah, the alleged tactic worked as Salah was forced out of the game injured to make it easier for Real Madrid to beat Liverpool.

Since then, despite Ramos stressing through interviews that Salah was not targeted in the game, Liverpool’s players and fans believed that Salah’s injury in the final was a well-worked-out plan executed by the veteran Spanish defender.

A year after that, Liverpool reached the Champions League final again but this time around, they faced Tottenham Hotspur which they beat 2-0 to win their 6th Champions League title.

During the 2020-2021 season, fate brought Real Madrid and Liverpool together for the second time in less than three years. But this time around, it was in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League. Unfortunately for Liverpool, Real Madrid knocked out the Premier League club 3-1 on aggregate.

That means that Real Madrid was instrumental in ensuring that coach Jurgen Klopp and his boys do not win more than a Champions League title in the last five years.

But the loss which Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah won’t forget in a hurry was the 2018 UEFA Champions League final which they lost to Madrid. Hence, immediately after it was confirmed that Liverpool will face Madrid in the final of the 2022 edition of the competition, Mohamed Salah took to his verified Twitter page to write “We have a score to settle”, which implies that he is seeking revenge against Madrid.

But his coach, Jurgen Klopp has made it clear ahead of the Champions League final that he does not believe in the concept of revenge, insisting that Salah’s tweet was misinterpreted.

“I don’t believe in revenge or think revenge is a fantastic idea. I understand what Mo said. He wants to put it right, but in Germany, we say you always meet twice in life.”

Whether Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah agree on the concept of revenge or not, they both have one goal which is to end the 2021-2022 season with a Champions League title for the 7th time in the history of Liverpool. If that happens, Klopp would go down as the first Liverpool coach in modern history to win the Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup (EFL Cup) in a single season.
