Football clubs are gearing up for the 2024-25 football season by utilizing the 2024-25 summer transfer window to beef up their squads.

Interestingly, while some clubs have already expended hefty sums to the tune of over €176m, others have yet to spend a dime as of the time of filing this report.

Statistics from Transfermarkt show Premier League clubs are dominating the list of the highest-spending clubs, with Aston Villa, Manchester United, Chelsea, Brighton, and Arsenal making the top 10. Football clubs from other leagues in the top 10 include Bayern Munich, Ipswich Town, Juventus, Al-Ittihad, and Olympic Lyon.

In contrast, Liverpool are leading the list of clubs that have yet to fork out a dime to sign any player as of the time of filing this report.

Football Clubs That Have Spent The Most Money This Summer

Aston Villa €176.2m

Premier League Club, Aston Villa are surprisingly topping the chart of the highest-spending clubs so far in the ongoing 2024-25 summer transfer window, having expended €176.2m on new arrivals.

At the time of this report, the Villains have signed eight players so far this summer. Leading the list is Amadou Onana (€59.35m) from Everton, Ian Maatsen (€44.50m) from Chelsea, and Cameron Archer (€16.65m) from Sheffield United. Others include;

  • Jaden Philogene from Hull City – €16.00m,
  • Samuel Illing-Junior from Juventus – €14.00m,
  • Lewis Dobbin from Everton – €11.80m,
  • Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus – €8.00m, and
  • Ross Barkley from Luton – €5.90m

Bayern Munich – €145.4m

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are second on the list, having splashed out €145.4m so far in the transfer market.

Leading the list of the club’s most expensive signing this summer is former Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Michael Olise, who joined on a €53.00m transfer fee.

Olise is followed by former Fulham star Joao Palhinha, who was signed for €51.00m. Others include Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart (€23.50m), Bryan Zaragoza from Cranada (€13.00m), Nestory from Adelaide (€3.40), and Armjndo Sieb from Gruther (€1.50m).

Olympique Lyon €134.3m

French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon are third on the log with a transfer spending of €134.3m. Former Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate leads the list of the club’s most expensive arrivals this summer with a transfer fee of €31.90m. Others include;

  • Ernest Nuamah from RWD Molenbeek -(€28.50m)
  • Orel Mangala from Nottingham Forest – (€23.40m) Georges Mikautadze from FC Metz – (€18.50m) Saïd Benrahma from West Ham United – (€14.40m)
  • Abner from Real Betis – (€8.00m)
  • Mama Baldé from Troyes – (€6.00m)
  • Duje Caleta-Car from Southampton – (€3.59m).

Chelsea – €112.5m

Chelsea are the fourth on the list. The Blues’ most expensive signing in the ongoing 2024-25 summer transfer window is former Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who signed for the club for €35.40m. Former Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen is second on the Blues’s most expensive signing list with a transfer fee of
€24.50m. Others include;

  • Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa – (€22.50m)
  • Renato Veiga Renato Veiga from Basel – (€14.00m)
  • Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United – (€10.10m)
  • Marc Guiu from Barcelona – (€6.00m)

Manchester United €104.5m

Manchester United have expended €104.5m so far in the transfer window. They are fifth on the list. Notably, unlike other clubs in this list, Manchester United have signed only two players so far, which has added up to €104.5m. Their first signing this season, Joshua Zirkzee, joined from Bologna for €62.00m. Their second signing, Leny Yoro, joined from Lille for €42.5m.

Brighton €91.5m

Another Premier club, Brighton and Hove Albion, also make the chart. The Seagulls have spent €91.5m on new signings so far. Their most expensive signing – Yankuba Minteh – joined from Newcastle United for €35.00m.

Former Feyenoord defensive midfielder Mats Wieffer is the second-most expensive signing for the club this summer after joining for €30.00m. Others include Ibrahim Osman from Nordsjaeland (€19.50m) and Malick Junior Yalcouye from Goteborg (€7.00m).

Juventus – €89.9m

Former Aston Villa and Brazilian attacking midfielder Douglas Luis is Juventus’ most expensive signing this summer. Luis joined the Serie A giants for €51.50m.

Other two arrivals, joining the club on settled transfer fees are Kephrem Thuram from Nice (€20.00m) and Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona (€12.80m). The signing of the three players has seen the club move up to sixth on the chart with an €89.50m transfer spending so far.

Al-Ittihad – €80.6m

Al-Ittihad have gotten over seventeen arrivals to the club, with over a dozen of the players returning on loan deals, as per transfermarkt. Out of these, only four players have joined on real money transfers. Former Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby is the club’s most expensive signing so far this summer with a transfer fee of €60.00m.

Midfielder, Houssem Hamour is second after joining from Roma for €12.00m. Others are Saad Al-Mousa from Al-Ettifaq (€6.91m), Ahmed AlGhamdi from Al-Ettifaq (€7.36m), and Muat Fargihy from Al-Hilal (€1.20m).

Arsenal – €76.9m

Arsenal occupy the second spot from the bottom of the chart with a transfer spending of €76.9m. The Gunners have signed only two players so far this summer, adding up to the €76.9 transfer spending.

Former Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori is the club’s most expensive signing for now, having joined for €45.00m. David Raya is the club’s second signing after his loan deal was made permanent for €31.90m.

Ipswich Town – €73m

Ipswich Town are currently the only lower-tier club that has made it to the top 10 on the chart. The club is bottom with a transfer spending of €73m.

Former Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson, 20, is their most expensive signing, having joined for €23.50m. Other signings include;
