AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring against 80 different clubs in the top five leagues across Europe. The 40-year-old Swedish striker equaled the record on Sunday, January 9, 2021, against Venezia.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic led AC Milan to Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium to take on Venezia in a must-win Italian Serie A match. Though AC Milan were expected to win the game, they were not expected to take the lead as early as the second minute of the game.
During the match, the oldest and most experienced man on the pitch, Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave the visitors the lead before the 2nd-minute mark. The goal did not only give AC Milan the lead, but it also helped Zlatan to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring against 80 different clubs in the top five European leagues.
Since 2000, no player has been able to score against 80 different clubs until Cristiano Ronaldo set the record on December 30, 2021. The 36-year-old Portuguese football icon set the record while playing for Manchester United against Burnley in a Premier League match.
Zlatan who has been playing professional football since January 1, 1999, equaled Ronaldo’s record in grand style on Sunday.
After he scored the opening goal against Venezia, Theo Hernandez doubled the lead in the 48th minute. In the 59th minute, Hernandez scored from the spot to make it a 3-0 victory over their hosts.
The win has kept AC Milan closer to the leaders of the Italian Serie A table, Inter Milan. The table leaders are currently leading the table with 49 points in 20 games, after 25 wins, 4 draws, and one defeat.
While AC Milan are second with 48 points in 19 games, a point behind Inter Milan that still have a game in hand. So far this season, Milan have recorded 15 wins, three draws, and three defeats.
Initially, when AC Milan defeated Venezia on Sunday, Milan moved to the top of the league table but Inter Milan returned to the summit of the table after defeating Lazio 2-1.
Inter Milan are hoping to defend the Italian Serie A title they won during the 2020-2021 season. While their local rivals, AC Milan are hoping to win the title for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.
The Milan team is hoping to achieve that with Zlatan Ibrahimovic who still until the end of this season before his contract with the Italian club expires.
