Solskjaer is currently one of the coaches in the world that is under intense pressure to deliver especially after suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
Before the defeat at the hands of Leicester City, Solskjaer and his boys failed to win two successive Premier League games despite parading some of the best players in the world.
Hence, supporters of the club have been pushing the #Oleout social media campaign to influence the club’s board to get rid of him.
However, there are reports that the board is still interested in the Norwegian tactician who has not been able to win a major title for the club since he became the club’s coach in 2018.
The best he has been able to do is to lead the club to the 2020-2021 Europa League final which he lost to Villarreal via penalty shootout.
Though the club’s board is reportedly not ready to sack him, the board has reportedly lined up several coaches to replace him if he continues to perform below expectation. Top on the list is Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane who is one of the most successful coaches in terms of the UEFA Champions League competition is seen as the coach that can effectively manage United’s squad.
Recall that after Zidane’s illustrious football career, he decided to go into coaching in 2014. He coached Real Madrid academy for 2 years before he was appointed coach of the club’s senior team in 2016.
Between 2016 and 2018, the 49-year-old French tactician helped Real Madrid to win one La Liga title, one Supercopa de España, three successive UEFA Champions League, two UEFA Super Cup, and two FIFA Club World Cup.
Zinedine Zidane won all these titles with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the two superstars reportedly had a personality clash which made Ronaldo leave the club for Juventus in 2018.
The French coach also left the club that same year but returned to the club in 2019. In his second spell at the club, Zidane helped Real Madrid to win one La Liga title and one Supercopa de España before he walked away again.
Zidane is currently without a job and Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United last summer, a club he played for between 2004 and 2009 before he joined Real Madrid in 2009.
In an interview with The United Stand YouTube page, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said he is certain that Zidane and the former coach of Inter Milan, Antonio Conte would like to coach Manchester United if they are approached.
The transfer expert however stressed that no official contact has been made with the coaches so far.
He said: “First thing I can say is that at the moment there are no contacts, as of now, between Zidane and Man United. The same goes for Conte.
“But the feeling I have is that these managers know that United have a fantastic team, so they know that if they were called in a few weeks or months… Yes, this kind of manager know that United have a fantastic team. So I have no doubts about this.
“I think Conte and Zidane are not thinking ‘I will refuse United if they call me’. It’s not about that. It’s about the decision from the board, and they are still protecting Ole.”
Manchester United are still backing Ole Gunnar Solskjær. They expect the situation to improve in the next weeks of course, not happy with last results & team performances – but club still protecting the manager. 🔴 #MUFC— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) October 17, 2021
