Youri Tielemans has announced he is leaving Leicester City following the club’s relegation from the Premier League on May 28, 2023.
He is out of contract this summer and will not be staying to help the club return to the top flight of English football.
Their relegation came just seven years after winning the Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri.
The 26-year-old joined the club from Monaco on loan in 2019 before signing a permanent deal the following year. He holds a place in the hearts of Leicester City fans after he won the FA Cup final with an excellent kick from outside the box against Chelsea in 2021.
The player sent an emotional message through his Instagram page: “From the first day I set foot on this ground, your warmth and passion embraced me.”
He continued, saying, “Victory and triumph, love, hope, and even defeat—we have shared many special moments together.”
“It is not a goodbye but a heartfelt farewell”.
Also, top players are likely to leave this summer following their relegation to the Championship. A number of top teams in England and abroad are interested in signing the Belgian international on a free transfer.
James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, who got attention from big Premier League clubs, are expected to follow.
