Wrexham fans erupted with celebrations, invading the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, Wales as Wrexham steamrollered to a thumping 6-0 victory over Forest Green to earn promotion to the third tier of the English football system.
If one would have doubted the influence of the management on Football Club’s fortunes, such doubts must have been extirpated in the wake of Wrexham’s thumping win over Forest Green.
The victory saw the Red Dragons secure back-to-back promotions from the fifth tier in the English football system to the third tier, thanks to the Hollywood duo Rob McElheney and Ryan Reynolds.
The pair have been credited for the unprecedented success and breakthrough recorded by Wrexham after they took over the club.
Ahead of the game against Forest Green, it was common knowledge that all Wexham needed was all three points against Forest Green Rovers to win promotion to League One.
The home fans had trooped into the Racecourse Ground, optimistically awaiting the landmark moment in the club’s history, and before the break, the Phil Parkinson-led side got the job done in an emphatic fashion.
17 minutes into the game, Lee got the hosts off the mark with the opener to make it 1-0. In the 23rd minute, Mullin doubled the lead for the hosts. 10 minutes after Mullin’s goal, Inniss mistakenly flicked the ball into his own net to make it 3-0.
A minute before the break, clutch Mullin scored again to bag his brace and raced the Red Dragons into an outrageous 4-0 lead.
The hosts were not done with the goal rout as they took it to the second half with a double to extend the score margin and smash the visitors’ comeback hopes.
Barnett scored three minutes after the hour mark while Marriott scored seven minutes before regulation time to wrap up an emphatic 6-0 victory.
At the blast of the final whistle, it was a celebration galore for Wrexham fans who had got the celebration party right underway when the score margin was already 4-0.
The fans ignored the club’s pre-warning to avoid pitch invasion after the match. They lurched forward in their thousands and invaded the pitch to celebrate the victory and promotion to the English third tier.
Wrexham have now secured back-to-back promotions in two years and will be tipped to contest for promotion again into the English second tier next season.
