Wout Faes has joined Leicester City from French Ligue 1 side Reims on a five-year contract. Leicester City completed the signing of the Reim star after they sold Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for £70m on Wednesday, September 31, 2022.
As the 2022 summer transfer window closes today, September 1, 2022, Premier League clubs are making last-minute moves to sign top targets to buckle up their team in the ongoing 2022/23 football season. Wout Faes is among last-minute transfer deals completed on the last day of the 2022 transfer window.
Wout Faes is joining Leicester City for a £15m fee and will play for the Foxes until 2027. Speaking after the completion of the deal, Faes expressed his happiness for being a part of the Leicester City football club and also expressed his desire to give all to the club.
“It’s an amazing feeling – it’s not sunk in yet. This is the dream step in my career, and I’m very happy to be here,” said Faes. “All the facilities and knowledge are here to help me to get even better. I will have to work hard, but I will give 100% to help the team.”
Who Is Wout Faes?
Wout Faes is a 24-year-old Belgium international. He plays in the center-back position. Faes started his football career in 2003 at the Rauw Sport Mol Youth team. He has also played for Lierse and Anderlecht youth teams between 2006 and 2016. He broke into Anderlecht’s first team in 2016 but made no appearance for the Belgium giants.
Between 2017 and 2018, he has gone on loan spells to Heerenveen and Excelsior. He joined Oostende in 2018, making 57 appearances for the club, before joining Reims of France in 2020. He made 73 appearances for Reims and scored 5 goals. While in Reims, he had gone for another loan spell with Oostende.
Faes has made a total of 63 appearances for Belgium junior teams, scoring 2 goals. He has featured for Belgium at the U-15, U-17, U-19, and U-21 levels. He has made only one appearance for the Belgian national team.
Wout Faes won the FIFA U-17 Third Place with the Belgium U-17 team. He has also won Stade de Reims player of the season for the 2021-2022 football season.
The 24-year-old Belgium center-back has signed for Leicester till 2027 for a fee of £15m. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to overturn a marathon of poor results so far with the signing of this former Reims star.
