    Paraguayan footballer and former Benfica player Oscar Cardozo had a fatal car accident in Paraguay.

    The prolific forward was caught in a footage smashing his Toyota Land Cruiser against a Mercedes Benz.

    According to eyewitnesses, Oscar Cardozo crashed into the Mercedes uncontrollably in the Capital City of Asuncion on Monday evening.

    During the accident, he desperately tried to prevent further damages but ended up dismantling the bonnet of the ride as he rode into a lamp post after colliding with the Mercedes.

    Reports have it that no one was hurt in the accident but Cardozo is more likely to face Paraguayan authorities after it was discovered he was driving without registration with the authorities.

    After the accident, Cardozo thanked all his fans for their best wishes and added he was unhurt and is fine, including the other party who was caught up in the accident.

    The incident took place on Monday evening, hours after Cardozo is said to have banged in four goals for Libertad in a Premeira Division game.

    After his sojourn in European football, Cardozo is said to be one of the most productive strikers in South American football.

    The 39-year-old striker has been hitting double digit goals for his clubs in his over two decades of his of professional football career.

    Born on 20 May 1983 in Raul Arsenio Oviedo, Paraguay, Oscar Cardozo is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Paraguay national team and Club Libertad.

    Cardozo started his football career in Paraguay, playing for Club 24 de Junior youth team.

    He made his first senior club appearance for 3 de Febrero in 2003, making 34 appearances and scoring 20 goals.

    He played for Nacional Asuncion, Newell’s Old Boys before joining Portuguese side Benfica in 2007.

    In his 7 years stint with Benfica, Oscar Cardozo made 175 appearances for the club, scoring 112 goals.

    In 2014, he joined Turkish side Trabzonspor before moving to Greek club Olympiacos where he ended his spell in European football.

    Nearing the twilight of his football career, Oscar Cardozo returned to his homeland in 2017 where he is currently playing for Paraguayan top side Libertad.

    He has made 186 appearances for the club and has scored 86 goals.

    Since making his debut for Paraguay national team in 2006, Oscar is still active in international football.

    He has won 56 caps with the national team, scoring 12 goals.

    Oscar Cardozo won several trophies with Benfica. He won the Premeira Liga and Taca De Portugal.

    He also won Greece Super Cup with Olympiacos and the Paraguayan Premeira Division title with Libertad.

    He has also bagged several individual awards as a player due to his exceptional brilliant and agility in front of goal.

    Cardozo scored two goals in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification stages, as Paraguay qualified for the finals in South Africa. On 29 June 2010, he netted the winning penalty in the shootout against Japan (5–3 victory), as La Albirroja qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time ever. In the following game, however, with the score at 0–0, he missed a 59th-minute penalty against Spain in a 0–1 defeat against the eventual champions.
