2022 FIFA World Cup

An international football competition featuring the men’s national teams of FIFA member associations is currently taking place in Qatar.

The 22nd FIFA World Cup, which is being hosted in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022, is the second World Cup to be held fully in Asia after the event that took place in South Korea and Japan in 2002. It is the first World Cup to be staged in the Arab and Muslim worlds.

The 2018 final saw France defeat Croatia 4-2 to win the title.

The 2022 edition of the World Cup is the most expensive World Cup ever, with an estimated cost of over $220 billion.

However, Qatari officials dispute this figure, with the organizing CEO Nasser Al Khater claiming the real cost is $8 billion; other figures pertain to overall infrastructure development since the World Cup was awarded to Qatar in 2010.
