Few hours after lowly rated Stoke City stunned Wolves by knocking them out of the Carabao Cup, the Premier League club released their third kit for the 2020-2021 season which looks like it was inspired by Portugal national team kit.
Though that of Wolves didn’t have a collar and buttons like that of the Portugal national team, they are both of the same dark red color. However, the red on that of wolves looks darker than that of Portugal.
Initially, Portugal planned to release the kit in March but the release had to be pushed back to September. The kit which was designed by Nike was initially designed for the team to defend the European Championship which they won in 2016. Unfortunately, the competition had to be postponed from 2020 to 2021.
Still, the jersey would be used for the competition since it would commence in the summer of 2021. And the price for Portugal’s jersey is £69.95 per shirt.
On the other hand, Wolf’s third kit was designed by Nike’s rival Adidas. The Premier League club will use the kit throughout the 2020-2021 season.
Since the club announced the release of the kit, football fans have taken it upon themselves to stress that the club decided to go with the design since most of their players are from Portugal.
Indeed, a check on the club’s first team, it was discovered that out of 24 first team players, 9 players are from Portugal which means that the club can set up almost a team for a match with only Portuguese players.
The Portuguese players at Wolves include Rúben Neves, Pedro Neto, Fábio Silva, Daniel Podence, Rui Patrício, Diogo Jota, Roderick, Rúben Vinagre, and João Moutinho.
