The head of medical for the Wolves, Phil Hayward has announced his departure from the Club. Hayward leaves Molineux after spending 11-and-a-half years at the Clubs side.  Hayward, initially joined the Wolves Academy in 2008.

Quickly creating a name for himself in the space of three years,  he was announced as first team physio. Hayward has been instrumental in the club’s excellent injury prevention record.

The Club has announced that Doctor Matt Perry will now take temporary charge until a permanent appointment is announced in the summer. The sporting  director Kevin Thelwell paid tribute to the departing Hayward.

“Phil has given an incredible level of service to Wolves over his 11-and-a-half years at the club, including some notable achievements, not least leading the team as they attained the Premier League all-time record for low injury rates in the 2018/19 season.”

“Phil has put together an exceptional medical and sports science team at Compton over the years, and the expertise now contained within the department will give us a real platform for sustained success moving forwards.”

Dr Matt Perry is expected to resume with immediate effect and will take over medical duties until the summer when Wolves will appoint Hayward’s long-term successor.

On Perry’s temporary appointment, Thelwell added: “Matt is the perfect person to provide us with the continuity we need in the medical and sport science team, whilst we undertake a thorough process to find the right candidate to succeed Phil.”

Phil Hayward was hands on in the recuperation of Wolves defender, Willy Boly. Willy Boly is facing a fight to play a significant part in the rest of the season after Wolves confirmed the defender would be out for ‘a number of months’ with a broken ankle.

Commenting on Boly status, Phil Hayward said: “Willy had surgery in London this morning to repair the bone with a small metal plate and screws.”

    Phil, will surly be missed.
