Manchester United must be desperate because the United family are said to need any strikers to come in after Marcus Rashford was confirmed a doubt for six to eight weeks. Marcus Rashford pulled out in what appears to be a back injury during their FA Cup win over Wolves. United have now been left with just Greenwood and don’t want to rely too much on the youngster as they are searching for alternatives. Even more interesting, United are said not to want to roll out too much cash as this new strikers venture is till the end of the season. Well two players seemingly are on United’s radar, Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani. It is understood that they may be potential signings before the end of January.
United fans have had mixed emotions about this revelation with many believing the Club is heading in the wrong direction. With just a week remaining until the end of the transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is yet to find a replacement for the injured Marcus Rashford. United also failed to secure replacements for Lukaku and Sanchez over the summer.
According to Sky Sports News, the Norwegian has added Ighalo and Slimani to his shortlist of potential incomings. Ighalo, formerly of Watford, has enjoyed a productive spell in China. The Nigerian born player has managed to score 46 goals from 62 outings for Changchun Yatai and current club Shanghai Shenhua.
Meanwhile, out-of-favor Leicester City forward Slimani has impressed on loan at Monaco. He gotten off to a very good start in the opening half of the campaign. With the Foxes likely not to give in especially since it will strengthen their Premier League rival side, United may have more success with an approach for the Nigerian international Ighalo.
Slimani has managed to find the back of the net 13 times in 46 appearances for Leicester. But since his arrival at the King Power Statdium back in 2016, he has been loaned out to Newcastle, Fenerbahce, and Monaco. He started his career at Sporting Lisbon before making his way to Europe.
After their 2-0 defeat to Burnley at Old Trafford in midweek, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer indicated that the club – six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after successive defeats need quality signings, with Paul Pogba as well as Rashford currently sidelined.
Also, a £30m offer has been submitted for Birmingham City’s 16-year-old Jude Bellingham.
Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes remains intent on a move to Old Trafford, but talks between the clubs have stalled, with United currently £10m short of Sporting’s valuation.
