Jack Wilshere is now a free agent after West Ham United terminated his contract.

There was an agreement between both parties to terminate the contract, leading the Premier League club to make the announcement on Monday.

The 28-year-old has ten months left on his current deal which he earned £100,000-a-week but was deemed surplus to requirements. The Hammers board has therefore cut the midfielder from their wage bill.

Jack Wilshere lat featured for England in Euros 2016

“West Ham United can confirm that the Club has agreed with Jack Wilshere to a mutual termination of the midfielder’s contract.

“The 28-year-old departs having played 19 times and scored once since joining the Hammers in the summer of 2018. Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Jack all the best for his future career,” West Ham statement reads.

Wilshere also confirmed the news on Twitter. The former Arsenal player said he still wants to play at the high level but the London club didn’t allow him, having been fit for the past eight months.

    Injury stops Wilshere from playing

Injuries had forced Arsenal to release Wilshere before joining West Ham as a free agent.

Wilshere rose through the rank at Arsenal after joining the Gunners at the age of nine. He left two years ago to join West Ham on a free transfer.

Injuries restricted Wilshere to 34 caps for England, with his last appearance coming in the Euro 2016 last 16 defeat to Iceland.

His time at London Stadium was also ravaged by injury, restricting him to just 19 appearances totaling 599 minutes.

But he was able to work his way back to full fitness this season and played the entirety of last month’s Carabao Cup

However, he is not part of David Moyes’ plans after being left out of the Premier League matches played so far.

The England international will now look to begin a new chapter elsewhere. He now finally have the opportunity to play in the US, having hinted on it before.
