West Ham United teenage midfielder George Earthy faced a horrible injury in his Premier League debut during a game against Fulham on Sunday, April 14.

The 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital for further assessment following a collision with his teammate Edson Alvarez.

What happened?

During West Ham United’s clash against Fulham, the 19-year-old was subbed on to replace Michail Antonio in the 82nd minute but had to be stretched off after a head collision with his teammate, Alvarez.

He lost consciousness after his head hit the ground resulting in lengthy medical assistance including receiving oxygen, before being stretchered off.

The center referee had to stop the match for about eight minutes as the youngster was attended to by the medical team.

Earthy was later carried from the pitch on a stretcher, with an oxygen mask and neck brace in place, but was conscious when leaving the London Stadium.

He has undergone a series of medical tests in a bid to ensure that no lasting damage has affected him.

Afterward, West Ham United confirmed that George Earthy was awake in the hospital. A statement from the club read: “West Ham United can confirm George Earthy will undergo an assessment in a London hospital following the incident which saw him stretchered off during Sunday’s Premier League contest against Fulham.”

West Ham manager David Moyes also provided an update on Earthy, he said; “George has suffered a head injury. He’s awake and has been taken to hospital for further assessment. I’m really disappointed for George.”

“He’s been doing really well in training and has performed great for the under-21s. He’s been getting much closer to the first team. He started well when he came on and had some nice touches.”

“He’s awake and has gone to hospital so we’ll get the checks done. We all thought that (he was knocked out cold) just being on the touchline. George is a terrific footballer and a great little technician.”

He added; “If we had the right moments, we probably would’ve tried to get him on sooner. He never let himself down in the time he was on the field.”

Earthy was then replaced by Maxwel Cornet in injury time, as West Ham fell to a 2-0 home defeat against their London rivals.

The midfielder was making just his second senior appearance after coming on as a late substitute in West Ham’s Europa League last-16 second-leg victory over Freiburg last month.
