Leicester City forward, Ademola Lookman has taken to his verified Twitter page to welcome Wesley Fofana back to football after their team knocked out Rennes from the Europa Conference League campaign.

Wesley Fofana has been out of competitive football since August 4, 2021, because he broke his leg (medial ligament injury) during a preseason friendly between Leicester and Villarreal.

The injury forced Leicester City to struggle without him since the 2021-2022 season commenced. The absence of the 21-year-old center-back in Leicester City’s defense forced the club to concede a whopping 45 goals in 26 Premier League games.

In his absence, Leicester City have managed to win just 9 league games, drew 6 games, and suffered 11 league defeats. Hence, his return to full fitness was a thing of joy for the entire squad.

To make his return more exciting, he scored Leicester City’s goal in Rennes’ 2-1 victory on Thursday. Though Rennes won the second leg game of the Europa Conference League knock-out round, Wesley Fofana’s goal helped the Premier League side to qualify for the quarter-final stage 3-2 on aggregate.

Even though Ademola Lookman joined Leicester City on loan from RB Leipzig, over three weeks after Fofana was already injured, the Nigerian football star knows how good the Frenchman is.

No wonder Lookman had to target the head of the Frenchman when he played a corner kick that ended up becoming the assist that sent Leicester City to the next round of the Europa Conference League.

After the game, Ademola Lookman who has switched his nationality from England to Nigeria tweeted: “Welcome back mon poche
@Wesley_Fofanaa, quarter-finals”.

Coach Brendan Rodgers celebrates with Wesley Fofana.

Wesley Fofana returned from a medial ligament injury like he was fit all season long. His first game after the lengthy injury was a Europa Conference League knock-out game against Rennes.

Though Rennes won 2-1, Leicester City’s 2-0 win in the first leg of the round was enough to help the Premier League side qualify for the quarter-final stage 3-2 on aggregate.

Wesley Fofana’s input in the second leg game helped to keep the scoreline as slim as 2-1. Aside from the fact that he scored a goal, he performed excellently in his defensive duty.

For instance, before he was substituted in the 78th minute, Wesley Fofana who spent seven months without playing football made five clearances and 2 interceptions.

More so, the 21-year-old Frenchman who reportedly earns £50,167 a week since he joined Leicester City from Saint-Étienne on October 2, 2020, made 8 ball recoveries and won 5/7 aerial duels.

Fofana’s contract with Leicester will expire on June 30, 2027. His current market value is said to be €40 million.

Fofana is an amazing player according to Coach Brendan Rodgers

Coach Brendan Rodgers ensured that Leicester City paid French Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne €35 million for the services of Wesley Fofana on October 2, 2020, because of his potential.

In his first season at Leicester City, the 21-year-old French defender played 38 games in all competitions. He was expected to do more for the team in the 2021-2022 season but injury got on the way.

After seven months of staying out of football, Fofana returned to the game like he never left. He scored a goal and helped Leicester into the quarter-final round of the Europa Conference League.

“Fofana is an amazing player”, coach Brendan Rodgers said after Leicester knocked out Rennes on Thursday. “That’s what top players do. He’s only been back training a few weeks but [top players] want to go and head it, with the determination, that’s something we’ve missed a lot this season, someone with that mentality and that’s a top player’s mentality.

“Such a massive prospect. Now we just need to try to build his fitness up. He was exceptional on the night.”
