Welsh Goalkeeper, Scott van-der-Sluis, Quits Football For Love Island

Scott van-der-Sluis has stunned his teammates, fans, and coaches after he confirmed his decision to down his football gloves in a somewhat bizzare career change-up.

“I’ve loved my time at Shels. Football is all I’ve ever done, all I’ve ever known. So this is a new and exciting opportunity for a change-up in life,” he said.

“Shels are a great club going in the right direction and I look forward to seeing what the lads can achieve.

“Shels is my club. I’ll be cheering on the lads as a fan when I leave the villa.”

Reacting to Scott’s decision, Shelbourne manager, Darmien Duff, said the decision by Scott was shocking.

“I was shocked and saddened that Scott chose a villa in Mallorca full of beautiful, single women over myself, the staff and the players,” joked Shelbourne manager Damien Duff.

“I thank Scott for his services to Shelbourne FC and we all wish him the very best for the future, whatever that holds.”

It has been confirmed Scott van-der-Sluis is quitting his football career to join a popular British Reality TV Show, Love Island.

Love Island is a popular lifestyle and dating show that has 391 episodes and is in its 10th series. Scott is among the contestants.

Why did Scot van-der-Sluis quit his football career?

While Scott’s decision may come as a shock to many, we understand Scott did not have the best of football career since he began his professional career with Swansea in 2018.

The young goalie spent a year each in Manchester United and Liverpool Academy before joining Swansea youth where he transitioned to first team.

He has joined six different clubs since 2018 after a spell with Swansea but has usually ended on the peripheries.

Who is Scot van-der-Sluis?

Scott van der Sluis is a former Welsh professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Irish club, Shelbourne and for Wales youth level.

Born in Connah’s square Wales, Scot van-der-Sluis started his football career back in 2009 as a youth player in Manchester United and Liverpool Academy.

He spent a year at Manchester United Academy from 2009 to 2010 before joining Liverpool Academy from 2010 to 2014. In 2015, Scott joined Swansea City Academy where he was subsequently promoted to the club’s first team in 2018.

He did not make a single appearance for Swansea despite breaking into the first team and was later loaned to Merthyr Town, where he made 11 appearances for the club before joining Runcorn in 2020.

At Runcorn, Scott van-der-Sluis made 6 appearances for the club and then completed a move to the Northern Premier League in the eighth tier of English football system, where his appearance tally reduce further. He made just one appearance for City of Liverpool before joining Bangor City.

At Bangor City, Scott seems to breath a bit of life to his mangled career as he managed 8 appearances for the club then completed a move to Shelbourne in 2022.

Scott did not make a single League appearance for Shelbourne before his premature exit from football for a new career phase in acting.

Scot van der Sluis played for Wales youth levels. He was yet to make an appearance for Wales senior national team. In 2015, he was drafted into Wales U-15 where he won 6 caps before progressing to Wales U-16 and winning 3 caps.

In 2017, Scott joined Wales U-17, making just one appearance for the team. The U-17 was Scott’s dead end in his national team ambition.
