PSV Einhoven Vs Sevilla Europa League Playoffs second leg slipped into crisis after a fan invaded the pitch at the closing stages of the game.

    Sevilla

It was a dramatic end to the tightly contested Europa League tie between the two sides.

After being thumped by three unreplied goals in the first leg, PSV needed a convincing victory against Sevilla in the Netherlands to book a Europa League round of 16 ticket.

They had to score four pass the visitors to overturn the first leg result, but it was definitely a very unlikely outcome against the 6 times Europa League champions.

At Philips Stadion, PSV gave their all but were unable to break the brink wall defense of the LaLiga side. The first half ended barren.

Meanwhile, Sevilla were heavily in the game, matching the hosts in terms of possession, completed passes, attacking threats, and attempts on target.

The home side finally broke the goal deadlock in the 77th minute, but they needed three more goals to book a place in round 16.

In the 5th minute of stoppage-time, PSV got another goal, but the match was far spent and it was pretty clear Sevilla were into the next round of the competiton.

The referee blew the final whistle and that was the end of the game. PSV won 2-0, but Sevilla progressed to round 16 on a aggregate 3-2 win.

After the final whistle, players were trying to make their way off the pitch before an angry PSV fan toppled the barricades and ran into the pitch towards Sevilla goalkeeper, Dmitrovic.

After making his way to Dmitrovic, the fan dragged his shirt and started throwing punches at the goalkeeper.

Dmitrovic quickly defended himself. He grabbed the fan and quickly pin him to the ground before other players and security operatives intervened and led off the fan.

Bruises and marks could be spotted on Dmitrovic’s neck after the attack.

Speaking after the game, Dmitrovic expressed his shock on the incident and called on the UEFA to intervene.

The goalie said he has not “seen anything like that” and he is furious but “had to keep his mouth shut so that he will not say what he wanted to do at that moment.”

Dmitrovic called the incident “a shame” and has dented the image of the game. He called on UEFA to quickly take drastic measures to forestall such occurrence in the future.

It is yet unknown why the fan aimed his assault on Dmitrovic after the game. However, the untoward reaction can equally be linked to the exit of PSV Einhoven from the Europa League.

Futballnews understand, PSV may come under heavy sanctions from UEFA following the reaction of the fan.

Dmitrovic produced a sterling performance in goal to keep off the threats of PSV as the team sailed through to round 16 of the Europa League, including Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Roma.
