    Dutch league side, Vitesse visited their local rivals, NEC on Sunday, October 17, 2021, for a league game that ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

    Vitesse’s Nikolai Baden Frederiksen scored the only goal of the Eredivisie match in the 16th minute at the Goffertstadion in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

    At the end of the game, Vitesse players went in front of the club’s supporters who traveled with them to celebrate the victory.

    In a clip that emanated from the game, the fans of the club could be seen bouncing up and down in rhythm with their players in front of them.

    As the celebration was going on, the stand which was filed with Vitesse fans cracked and collapsed. Fortunately for the fans, the collapse was not so terrible to cause a serious disaster but it succeeded in halting their celebration.

    Immediately it was confirmed that no one was seriously injured, the celebration continued as the fans who were standing on the damaged portion tried to make their way out of the damaged portion.

    After the incident which could have been very horrific, the mayor of Nijmegen, Hubert Bruls called for an investigation into the incident.

    In an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the mayor confirmed that no one was hurt during the incident.

    He said: “I am very shocked by what happened. Fortunately, as far as is known, no one was injured. I want an investigation into what happened here as soon as possible.”

    Also, NEC general director Wilco van Schaik confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. He confirmed that the container under the stand prevented the collapse from being too severe.

    “As far as I know, there are no injuries,” Van Schaik told NOS.

    “All kinds of things go through your head. There was a container under that stand and it has prevented worse.”

    He also told ESPN that: “The first question was: were there any victims involved? Well, fortunately not, as it looks now. But things do go through your head.”

    Vitesse 1-0 win over NEC has taken the club to the 6th spot on the league table with 16 points in 9 games. While NEC are sitting on the 11th spot with 11 points in 9 games.

    On Thursday, October 21, Vitesse will host Tottenham Hotspur at the GelreDome in a Europa Conference League group stage game.
