Vincent Kompany Replies To People Who Said The Bayern Munich Job Was Bigger Than Him

Speaking after the game when asked about his thoughts on people who said the Bayern Munich job was bigger than him, the Belgian indicated that he has the mentality of a warrior.

Kompany said: “I’ll tell you something in a quick way just to prove a point. I was born in Brussels, my dad was a refugee who came from Congo.”

Vincent Kompany pointed out that his background didn’t stop him from achieving giant strides in his playing career and as such, he will continue to soldier on in his managerial career.

He said: “What are my chances of even playing in the Premier League, winning something as a player, playing for the national team? The odds were 0.000 something. Now I’m a coach.

“Do you just stop believing in yourself and what you can achieve because of what other people say?”.

The 38-year-old further shared that the mentality is to keep pushing and “if you fail, you fail; if you succeed, you succeed.”

However, Kompany stressed that one can always become better if one puts in the required effort, and he is not bothered by comments about him on social media.

When Did Bayern Munich Appoint Vincent Kompany?

Vincent Kompany was appointed as boss of Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024, following the departure of German tactician Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Bavarian giants had an underwhelming season by their standards last term, ending the season trophyless for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign.

Kompany was brought in to steady the ship at Bayern Munich and help them continue winning trophies.

Thus far, Vincent Kompany is handling the team well, and he appears to have a good relationship with his players despite criticism of his man-management skills following a video that surfaced online in August 2024 showing him swearing at versatile player Johann Berg Gudmundsson during his spell as Burnley boss.

Kompany helped the Clarets secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2022/23 season, before they were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

There was skepticism from football enthusiasts when reports emerged of Bayern Munich’s interest in Vincent Kompany, but he appears to be shutting his critics with the positive results currently being churned out by the Bavarian side.

Bayern Munich In The 2024/25 Season

They currently sit pretty at the summit of the German Bundesliga table with 9 points from 3 matches, 2 points better than Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig who sit 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Interestingly, Bayern Munich also lead the UEFA Champions League League table with 3 points and a healthy goal difference of +7.

It will be fascinating to see what Vincent Kompany will achieve at Bayern Munich as he looks to make a name for himself in football management, just like his former manager Pep Guardiola.

Records Broken By Bayern Munich Under Vincent Kompany

They became the first team to score 9 goals in one game in the history of the UEFA Champions League, following their big victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

It is also Bayern Munich’s biggest victory since they started competing in the UEFA Champions League, while Vincent Kompany also got his biggest result ever since he began coaching with that win.
