In-form Napoli forward and Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has won the 2022 Best Foreign Athlete in Italy after his incredible and prolific run with Napoli this season.

Victor Osimhen Wins Italy 2022 Best Foreign Athlete of the Year Award

Osimhen has been in top shape for Napoli this season. Hence, bagging the prestigious Italian award is not a surprise.

Taking to his social media handle to share the award with his teeming fans and followers, Victor Osimhen wrote, “Amazing feeling to be awarded the 2022 Best Foreign Athlete in Italy. Thank You All for your support. God is The Greatest.”

Victor Osimhen has been the most in-form Serie A striker for Napoli this season and has shot the Serie A giants to the top of the table with an astonishing gap.

Certainly, the former Lille forward is set to smash several awards at the end of the season if he continues in his scintillating and prolific goal-scoring streak for Napoli.

Currently, Osimhen sits comfortably at the top of the chart of top scorers in the Serie A this season with 19 goals in less number of games than his closest rival Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan, who has 14 goals.

This leaves the 24-year-old in pole position to claim the 2022/23 Serie A golden boot at the end of the season. Osimehn may also nick the best player award with his top-rated performance for Napoli, helping the club open a 15-point gap on top of the Serie A table.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has banged in 19 goals for Napoli in the current Serie A campaign, but 10 of his goals have been scored after the World Cup break in 2023.

After his goal against Empoli in Napoli’s 2-0 victory last week, Victor Osimhen became the second Serie A player to score in eight consecutive Serie A league matches after Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2019/20 football season.

Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for the longest goal-scoring streak in the Serie A after he netted in 11 consecutive matches for Juventus in the 2019/20 football season.

Osimhen’s 19 goals for Napoli has moved him closer to the record held by current Liberia President and former footballer George Weah in the Serie A.

George Weah holds the record for the highest number of goals scored by an African player in Serie A. He scored 46 goals during his stint in the Italian topflight.

Victor Osimhen is now three goals away from matching George Weah’s record after increasing his total Serie A goal tally to 43 goals.

With 13 Serie A matches remaining to the end of the season, the Nigeria international is more likely to hit and surpass George Weah’s record.

Top European clubs interested in signing Osimhen

After his 19 goals haul for Napoli, top Premier League clubs have been eyeing the Nigeria international. Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign the 24-year-old in the summer.

The Red Devils are reportedly ready to splash over £100m to bring Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford and will battle it out with domestic rivals Chelsea who are hoping to sign the player to arrest their depleted striking options.

Meanwhile, speaking on Monday after receiving the award, Victor Osimhen reiterated his dream to complete a move to the Premier League one day.

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and strongest league. I’m in one of the best leagues of the world, which is the Italian Serie A.”

“Of course, I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday, but it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum,” he said.
