Napoli striker Victor Osimhen called out Finidi George over his comment regarding his attitude towards the Nigeria national team of Nigeria.
Osimhen took to his Instagram page to aggressively rant about the comment made by Finidi George and gave a comprehensive reason why he wasn’t available in camp for the match against South Africa on June 7 and the Benin Republic on June 10.
Victor Osimhen said, “I knew things like these would happen, and that’s why I have the videos and screenshots of when I called Finidi while I was with the doctor in Germany. I got injured in our last game against Lecce, and I went to the MRI scan. And I called Finidi there for him to listen to the doctor too.”
“I called Finidi and asked him to allow me to come to the camp to be with the boys, and I spoke to some of my teammates too, but he said I had to be with my family.”
“I’m not addressing anything; everybody knows I play my heart out whenever I’m playing for the club or national team. I’ll share the screenshot and videos of my conversation with Finidi for the sake of those believing what Finidi said.”
Finidi George, who had stepped down as the manager of the Nigeria national team, said he couldn’t beg the Napoli striker to play for the Super Eagles after the player withdrew from the previous 2026 World Cup qualifier matches between South Africa and Benin Republic.
Osimhen’s absence was due to an injury suffered in Napoli’s last game against Leece in the Serie A.
Finidi George also blamed Victor Osimhen’s absence for the team’s poor performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa which ended in a 1-1 draw and against Benin Republic which ended in a 2-1 defeat.
Finidi George Resigned As The Head Coach Of The Super Eagles
The Super Eagle manager, Finidi George, had left his job as the manager of the Nigeria national team after a zero-win in two competitive matches.
George departed after Nigeria embarrassingly lost against the Benin Republic side. The Super Eagles were defeated 2-1 by the Benin Republic side, which sent disordeliness into the dressing room.
The Super Eagles had failed to win their previous four matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The NFF are looking forward to employing a foreign coach to help the Super Eagle qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after they missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The NFF will continue to ensure the Super Eagles play at the highest level with the provision of a better tactician capable of making the team return to the glory days.
What Next For The Super Eagles?
The Super Eagles next match is going to be against Rwanda on March 17, 2025. It is a must win for the Super Eagles if they are interested in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
