Victor Osimhen showed once again why he is a top striker after scoring twice against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League Round of 16.
The 24-year-old Nigerian’s two goals were enough to see the Naples through to the quarterfinals of the tournament, with Napoli’s Piotr Zieliski scoring from the penalty spot to extend Napoli’s lead.
The Serie A giant qualified for the next round with an aggregate score of 5-0.
However, before the beginning of the match, the city of Naples was in disarray, with the police coming in to save the day with their gear.
The Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt fans clashed, with both fans throwing weapons at themselves and vandalizing cars and other properties.
It was reported that the away fans were barred from coming into the stadium because of the incident that happened in the first leg.
However, nine people have been taken into police custody after the incident.
The club will be fined excessively for failing to control the behaviors of its fans.
How Napoli defeated Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was close to putting the ball inside the Eintracht Frankfurt net, but he was denied in the 19th minute of the match.
Kvaratskhelia had an opportunity in the first half to put Napoli in, but Kevin Trapp’s strong palm was enough to beat off the threat by the Napoli player.
The first goal came in the 47th minute, with Osimhen went so high above the Eintracht Frankfurt defender to head home for Napoli.
His header came like a bomb, with Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp not having the slightest opportunity to touch the ball.
In the 55th minute, Osimhen scored a tap-in with a full stretch of his legs.
His attempt injured his arm, and left Napoli’s fans who don’t want to lose their in-form striker worried. It was Osimhen’s third goal against the German side.
The goal took Osimhen’s total goals this season to 23 goals in 28 matches in all competitions.
Zieliski wasted no time in scoring from the penalty spot; it was an excellent take from the Polish midfielder, who has been exceptional in the game.
Napoli will wait for the Champions League quarterfinal draw on March 17, 2023. They are likely to meet teams like Bayern Munich or Manchester City.
