Uruguay vs Colombia: The Colombia national team qualified for the 2024 Copa America final after Jefferson Lerma scored a beautiful header in the first half of the game against Uruguay.

James Rodriguez provided his sixth assist of the tournament to help Colombia defeat the Uruguayan team. 

Rodriguez became the first South American player with six assists at a major tournament since Pele for the Brazil national team in the 1970 World Cup.

The victory for Colombia against Uruguay meant they extended their unbeaten run to 28 games since they suffered a defeat to Argentina in February 2022.

They are expected to play against Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final. The Argentine side qualified for the final after defeating Canada in the semi-finals.

In the match, the referee gave out seven yellow cards and one red card. Darwin Nunez and a few other Uruguayan players had a clash with the Colombian fans. 

How the Colombia National Team Defeated the Uruguay National Team Even though a Colombian player was sent off in the first half

The first attempt on goal came in the 6th minute of the game with a heavy shot from Colombian right-back Santiago Arias. 

Another chance came for Colombia in the 15th minute of the game with a nice header from Daniel Munoz. 

Uruguay’s first chance on goal came in the 18th minute of the game with a clear chance from Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez. The striker failed to convert the chance, putting too much effort on the ball.

Colombian star James Rodriguez forced Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet into a save from a direct free kick. 

In the 24th minute, Uruguayan striker Nunez had another chance, but he blasted it over the goal post. 

Rodriguez created a chance for his teammate, but his header was not on target to put the Colombia national team ahead. 

The Colombian team went ahead in the 39th minute of the game after Rodriguez delivered a cross from the corner into Uruguay’s 18-yard box, with Crystal Palace midfielder Lerma meeting the ball with a header.

Uruguay goalkeeper Rochet saved an attempt from Rios in the 43rd minute of the game.

Colombia played the second half with 10 Men after Munoz got sent off for elbowing Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte. 

The Uruguayan team had their first chance of the second half in the 66th minute, but Colombia goalkeeper Vargas pulled an excellent save

A few minutes later, Vargas stopped Uruguay from scoring a goal on another attempt. 

Colombia came close to scoring another goal in the 87th minute after Uruguay goalkeeper Rochet made a horrible mistake. 

In the 89th minute, Uruguay national team striker Nunez forced Colombia national team goalkeeper Vargas into a save.

Colombia’s Uribe was in a 1-on-1 situation with Uruguay national team goalkeeper Rochet but he failed to convert the beautiful chance. 

What Next for Colombia and Uruguay?

Colombia will play against Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final on July 15, 2024, at 1:00 a.m.

Uruguay will play against Canada on July 14, 2024, at 1:00 a.m for the 2024 Copa America third place.
