Mikel Arteta To Open Contract Talks With Arsenal When The 2024 Summer Transfer Window Closes
Mikel Arteta has expressed that he will open talks over a new contract with Arsenal once the 2024 summer transfer window ends.
Arteta’s current deal expires at the end of this season, and there has been uncertainty about the Spaniard’s future.
However, talks are not expected to be an issue, as the 42-year-old has a good relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
Speaking in a presser ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Aston Villa on Saturday, August 24, 2024, he said: “The focus has been on the transfer window.
“We had quite a lot of things to do and discuss. We are on it and we will take care of that at the right moment.”
Mikel Arteta has been boss of Arsenal since 2019 and has guided the team to second-place finishes in the last two Premier League campaigns.
Mikel Arteta’s Comment On Managing Arsenal
Meanwhile, Arteta added that he was grateful for being manager of the Gunners and is excited about what the future holds.
The Spanish tactician said: “I am very grateful first of all for where I’m sitting and the people I work with every single day because it’s really difficult to find that harmony, trust, belief, and alignment in the vision.
“It’s something I always mention because I believe we still have an unbelievable time ahead of us. It’s very exciting and I am very excited about it.”
The North London side have been active in the transfer market, acquiring Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori in a deal worth £42 million and selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham for a fee that could reach £34 million.
Arsenal have also reportedly completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
They are also said to be interested in Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Ademola Lookman.
Additionally, forward Eddie Nketiah is holding talks with Nottingham Forest about joining the club.
Moreover, given the timeframe Mikel Arteta has shared about his potential contract extension, it is expected that could be done after the transfer window closes on August 30, 2024.
