UEFA has unveiled the official team of the tournament for the just-concluded Euro 2024 in Germany. Spanish players dominate the list after the team’s brilliant campaign in the tournament.
France, England, Switzerland, and Germany, are also represented in the 11-man team list as shown below;
Forwards [Jamal Musiala, Lamine Yamal & Nico Williams]
Euro 2024 best three forwards are all promising youngsters who shone bright for their national teams in the tournament.
Two Spain’s youngsters, Lamine Yamal, 17, and Nico Williams, 19, make the forward’s list. Lamine Yamal played all Spain’s 7 matches in the competition, scoring one goal with 4 assists. He won the best Young Player of the Tournament Award.
Nico Williams played 6 matches, bagged an assists and scored 2 goals, with one of the two strikes scored in the final. He won the man-of-the-match award for the final match.
Musiala’s Germany and tournament hosts, crashed out in the quarter-finals, losing to England but the Bayern Munich sensation had already made his mark, scoring 3 goals to emerge joint-top scorer in his five matches at the tournament.
Midfielders [Rodri, Dani Olmo & Fabian Ruiz]
All three midfielders on the list are Spanish footballers. This attests to Spain’s strong midfield composition in the tournament. As expected, Manchester City star and 2022-23 Champions League winner, Rodri, is on the list. Rodri made six appearances in the tournament, scoring one goal.
PSG star Fabian Ruiz also made the list. Ruiz also tallied six appearances in the tournament with 4 goal contributions, comprising 2 assists and 2 goals. Notably, since making his debut for Spain’s national team in 2019, Ruiz has yet to lose a match. He has tallied 29 international appearances for the team, recording 20 wins with 9 draws.
RB Leipzig star and Manchester City target, Dani Olmo, also made the cut. Olmo joined the ranks of top scorers in the competition with 3 goals. He also bagged a double of assists in his six appearances for the team, playing a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph.
Defenders [Marc Cucurella, Manuel Akanji, William Saliba & Kyle Walker]
In the defense category, four national teams – Spain, England, Switzerland, and France – are represented. Chelsea star Marc Cucurella unavoidably made the cut after his brilliant performances throughout the tournament. He made six appearances for the team and notably provided the match-winning assist for La Roja in the final.
Arsenal star William Saliba also made the cut of best defenders in the tournament. He played France’s all six matches before the semi-final loss to Spain.
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji is also included in the list. Akanji played all of Switzerland’s five matches before the quarter-final loss to England. Another Manchester City defender and England star Kyle Walker made the list. The 34-year-old was crucial to England’s run-in to the final, starting the team’s all seven games in the tournament.
Goalkeeper [Mike Maignan]
France and AC Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, has emerged as the best goalkeeper in the tournament. Maignan started all France six games and made 16 saves. Maignan most notable performance was against Belgium in the quarter-finals. The 29-year-old made critical saves to deny Belgium an equaliser in the quarter-finals.
