UEFA Nations League Review: Belgium Hammer Iceland 5-1 as France Defeat Croatia

    In an entertaining display of attacking football, France prevailed over a dogged Croatia sidein their UEFA Nations League tie after starting the game on the back-foot.

    Defender Dejan Lovren opening the scoring to put Croatia ahead after 17 minutes from a corner but drew France level when Antoine Griezmann found the back of the net just before half-time.

    In the first-half stoppage time, Manchester United ace Anthony Martial guided the ball home, however, the effort deflected in off Croatia’s shot-stopper Dominik Livakovic for an own goal.

    Croatia came back leveled in the 55th minute when Josip Brekalo scored his first international goal for his country.

    In a back and forth event, the 2018 World Cup winners were with the lead when RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano headed in a corner from close-range in the 65th-minute.

    Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud wrapped the game up in the 77th-minute as he converted a spot-kick following a handball by Lovren to made it 4-2.

    Belgium continued their 100 percent start to their UEFA Nations League as they demolish Iceland 5-1 in their game two to move clear at the top of Group 2.

    Belgium fell behind after 11 minutes when Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson deflected in goal for the visitors.

    However, the Red Devils turned the tides with two quick goals as veteran midfielder Axel Witsel equalized before Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi made it 2-1 with a cheeky backheel, all in five minutes.

    PFA Player of the Year winner Kevin De Bruyne assisted Dries Mertens five minutes into the second half before Batshuayi doubled his tally and extend the host’s lead.

    Finally, 18-year-old Anderlecht forward Jeremy Doku wrapped the show up with 10 minutes left to play as he guided his effort home.

    Other fixtures in the group saw Denmark and England play a goalless draw in Copenhagen as the Three Lions continue to struggle internationally.
