France striker, Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out of tomorrow’s UEFA Nations League clash against Croatia after his COVID-19 test returned positive.

This is coming after his goal was the difference between the Les Blues and Sweden in the UEFA Nations League opener.

“Kylian Mbappe will not participate in France versus Croatia on Tuesday evening at 20:45CET at the Stade de France.

“The result of his Covid-19 test carried out by UEFA on Monday morning was found to be positive. He was placed away from the group after receiving the results, at the end of the training, before going back to his own home in the evening.

“Like the entire delegation, Kylian Mbappe had undergone a test prior to the games of the international break. The result was negative, like the one last Wednesday, at the request of UEFA, before Sweden against France,” a statement from the French FA has confirmed.

This has therefore worsened PSG’s position after Neymar and Angel Di Maria alongside six other players had tested positive to the dreaded virus a few days ago. He has therefore left the French camp and began his isolation.

This makes Mbappe the seventh Paris Saint-Germain player to test positive for coronavirus. The teenage striker will now join Mauro Icardi, Di Maria, Leandro Paredes, and other PSG players who had tested positive in isolation.

Will PSG Ligue 1 opener hold without Neymar, Mbappe?

According to the rule of the French Ligue 1 committee, once four members of the team test positive, the game will be postponed. Such was the situation with Olympique Marseille some weeks ago.

The Ligue 1 champions are due to return to domestic action away at Lens on September 10 before hosting Marseille on September 13.

Mbappe will now miss those games as he is expected to have to self-isolate before returning to action.

PSG had tweeted last Thursday: “The latest tests carried out within the Paris Saint-Germain squad confirm the result of three new positive cases.

“These players follow the appropriate health protocol.”

With this situation, there is a likelihood that the champions opening game will be postponed.
