UEFA Champions League Group stage has come to an end with various club qualifying for the round of 16 whilst some were sent to Europa League and others back to their local leagues.

Here on Futballnews today, we are going to be looking at the teams that qualified and the ones that were sent to Europa League and also top goals and assist lists.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage Top Scorers

At the top of the UEFA Champions League scoring charts for this season, Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah are locked on seven goals.

Salah scored goals in five straight Champions League games to end the group stage, including the fastest hat trick in competition history on Matchday 4 against Rangers, which took just six minutes and 12 seconds.

While Mbappé scored five goals over the course of five games, and his opening goal for Paris Saint Germain against Juventus on Matchday 6 brought him once more even with Salah.

Prior to Matchday 5, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, and Salah were all tied on five goals.

However, on that day, Mbappé scored twice in Paris’ 7-2 victory over Maccabi Haifa, breaking the tie, and Salah joined him on six goals the next day. A week later, they both did one better.

Following matchday 6 of the Champions League 2022–23 group stage, Joo Cancelo is ranked first in terms of assists.

With four assists in five games, Joo Cancelo is in first place, followed by Diogo Jota and Lionel Messi.

Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City and Kimmich of Bayern Munich have each supplied three assists so far this year.

Note that Sevilla, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid were mathematically eliminated from the competition last week, leaving just Real Madrid from Spain to make it to the round of 16.

The first two teams will continue their European campaigns in the Europa League, while Diego Simeone’s team is no longer eligible to compete on the continent.

Teams that Qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League

The following 16 teams have advanced to the Champions League’s round of 16:

Spain: Real Madrid.

England: Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Italy: Napoli, Inter and AC Milan.

Germany: Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

France: PSG.

Belgium: Club Brugge.

Portugal: Porto and Benfica.

Real Madrid will win Group F, and RB Leipzig would join them in the following round. In Group E, AC Milan defeated RB Salzburg to advance with Chelsea to the round of 16.

Teams Down To Europa

The following teams have been determined to advance to the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs:

  • Ajax
  • Barcelona
  • Juventus
  • Leverkusen
  • Salzburg
  • Sevilla
  • Shakhtar
  • Sporting CP

In third place and qualified for the Europa League knockout round play-offs were Ajax, Leverkusen, Barcelona, Sporting, Salzburg, Shakhtar, Sevilla, and Juventus.

Atlético comes in fourth, followed by Celtic, Copenhagen, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Haifa, Marseille, Plze, and Rangers.

When is the draw for the Champions League’s round of 16?

On Monday, November 7 at 12:00 p.m. CET, the draw for the Champions League Round of 16 will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland. Therefore, the draw will be transmitted in the United States at 7:00 ET/ 4:00 PT.

It should also be mentioned that the two Round of 16 matches that arise from the draw will be contested on 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd February 2023 for the first leg and on 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th March 2023 for the second leg.
