Chelsea center-back, Trevoh Chalobah has confirmed that the challenge involving him and Liverpool’s midfielder, Naby Keita left him injured to the extent he had to receive some stitches.

Recall that during the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 27, Naby Keita and Trevoh Chalobah stretched for the ball midway but both players failed to gain possession of the ball.

While Naby Keita was landing his leg, he decided to land the leg near the groin of Chalobah which left him on the ground for a couple of minutes.

Chelsea’s players urged the game’s central referee Stuart Attwell to punish Keita for the challenge while Liverpool’s players argued that it was a 50-50 effort.

Referee Attwell had to visit the pitchside monitor to review the challenge and did not deem it worthy enough to punish Keita.

Even though most pundits and Chelsea’s fans wanted the referee to show Keita a straight red for endangering the life of Chalobah, the referee and the Video Assistant Referee Darren England completely dismissed the challenge. After a series of back and forth, Trevoh Chalobah stood up and continued to play the remaining minutes in the game.

After 120 minutes of football, Chalobah was allowing taking one of Chelsea’s ten spot-kicks. He was able to score the kick but Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa missed his which handed the victory to Liverpool.
