Samuel Umtiti set for a new challenge

Barcelona have terminated the contract of Frenchman Samuel Umtiti.

The termination of Umtiti’s contract is coming three years before it was supposed to expire.

Barcelona on the 30th of June 2023 released a statement on their official website confirming the news; they wrote: 

“FC Barcelona and defender Samuel Umtiti have reached an agreement to release the player from the contract binding him to the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

“FC Barcelona wishes to express its gratitude to Umtiti and wishes him every fortune and success in the future.”

Where is Umtiti headed?

The Frenchman is set for a fresh challenge after seven years at Barcelona, where he won two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey titles.

Umtiti was impressive for the Blaugrana side during his early years with the club after joining from Lyon in 2016.

The 29-year-old was also an important member of the French side that won the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

A knee injury really blighted the defender’s career but he managed to play first team football last term at Serie A club Leece.

It is uncertain the next club Umtiti will be representing as he is in search of a new team to ply his trade.

De Gea’s contract expired on the 30th of June, 2023 putting an end to a 12-year stay at the Old Trafford club.

Despite his contract running out, discussions remain open with the legendary goalie.

The goalkeeper’s future currently hangs in the balance and there is the possibility of him plying his trade for another side next season.

Englishman Ruben Loftus-Cheek has completed a £15 million move from Chelsea to AC Milan.

Loftus-Cheek penned a four-year deal with the Rossoneri, which will see him stay with the club until at least the summer of 2027.

The 27-year-old joined the club at the age of 8 and he has decided to end his 19-years stay at Stamford Bridge.

He will be teaming up with former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro as they prepare for a competitive season ahead.

The England International made 155 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 13 goals and providing 18 assists across all competitions.

He won several trophies at the Stamford Bridge club, including two Premier League titles, one Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup.

Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst have returned to Bayern Munich after their loan deals with Manchester United expired.

Confirming their departure on it’s official website while sharing a squad update of Manchester United, the club wrote: 

“In terms of incoming loans at United, Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst are due to return to Bayern Munich and Burnley, respectively.”

The club additionally wrote that both players were immense to the club’s successes last term.

United added: “Both made telling contributions to our Carabao Cup success and clinching a top-three place in the Premier League, with Weghorst supplying the assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal in the final win over Newcastle United at Wembley.

“Sabitzer scored twice in the home Europa League tie with Sevilla, after opening his account in the Emirates FA Cup comeback against Fulham, but missed the run-in due to a knee problem.”

Marcel Sabitzer made 18 appearances for Manchester United during his short stint on loan at the club, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist.

For Wout Weghorst, he made 31 appearances for Erik Ten Hag’s side last term, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.
