Brazilian stars have seen gales of racist attacks and abuses recently, with Tottenham star Richarlison being the latest casualty of the improper and callous proclivities of some football fans.
Richarlison suffered racial abuse on Tuesday, 27 September 2022, during Brazil’s 5-1 win over Tunisia. A Tunisian fan was captured throwing a banana at the 25-year-old after he scored Brazil’s second goal.
Richardson had put forward his country 2-1 up in the friendly against ten-man Tunisia in the friendly in Paris at the Parc des Princes. As he celebrated his goal, on of the fans threw a banana was him.
In a show of fury, Manchester United midfielder and teammate Fred kicked the banana off the pitch.
Prior to the match, Richarlison and his Brazil teammates had expressed their stand against racism by putting out an anti-racism message prior to kick-off to remind fans of the importance of black players in Brazil’s history.
The team posed next to a banner that read: “Without our black players, we wouldn’t have stars on our shirts.”
The statement was in response to Vinicius Jr saga in the Madrid Derby in La Liga. The Real Madrid star was racially abused in the build-up to the match.
While on the pitch in the Madrid Derby, racial chants by Atletico Madrid fans found be heard.
Recall that the President of Association of Spanish Football Agents, Pedro Bravo, had asked Vinicius Jr to stop playing the monkey and respect his teammate each time he scores a goal.
Although Real Madrid promised legal action against erring rival fans, Vinicius took matters into his own hands and defiantly danced to celebrate Rodrygo’s strike in the Madrid Derby.
That came not long after Atletico Madrid fans had gathered outside the Metropolitan stadium before the match an yelled racial abuses at Vinicius hr.
A similar scenario of racist abuse occurred in Paris as Spurs ace Richarlison had a banana thrown at him by a fan after scoring for his country.
The Tottenham star forward put his country take a 2-1 lead against ten-man Tunisia in Paris at the Parc des Princes. While celebrating his goal, a spectator threw a banana at him.
Meanwhile, Brazil have issued an official statement with reference to the Richarlison’s incident. Taking to it’s official Twitter account,
The post reads: “Unfortunately, after the action, a banana was thrown on the pitch towards Richarlison, author of the second Brazilian goal.
“CBF reinforces its position to combat racism and repudiates any prejudiced manifestation.”
Richarlison scored his seventh goal in his last six matches for the Brazil national team before the ugly incident.
Meanwhile, President of the Brazilian FA, Ednaldo Rodrigues added in a statement: “Once again, I come publicly to express my rejection. This time I saw it with my own eyes. This shocks us. We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of colour, race or religion.
“The fight against racism is not a cause, but a fundamental change to wipe this type of crime from the planet. I insist on saying that the punishments need to be more severe.”
Richarlison was substituted in the match for Vinicius hr at half time when Brazil hedk a commanding 4-1 lead over ten-man Tunisia.
Former Leeds forward and Barcelona’s star Raphinha scored the opening goal in the the 11th minute with a brilliant header from the edge of the area.
However, Tunisia equalised seven minutes later with a header by Montassar Talbi from a free-kick.
Brazil regained their lead a minute later. Raphinha found Richarlison ghosting behind in the Tunisian box and fired a low shot between the goalkeeper’s legs, scoring country’s seventh goal in six matches.
Brazil were awarded a spot kick when Laidouni held back Manchester United midfielder Casemiro in the box. Neymar converted the spot kick to make it 3-1 for Brazil.
Just before the break in the 40th minute, Raphinha scored a low shot from the edge of the box after utilizing a speedy counterattack. Dylan Bron, a Tunisian defender, received a red card two minutes to compound the woes of the Carthage Eagles.
Pedro found the back of the net again in the 74th minute to wrap things up for Brazilian as they eased pass the depleted Tunisians with a 5-1 win.
Brazil will open their 2022 World Cup campaign against Serbia on November 24 before facing Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G.
