Tottenham Hotspur are not planning to allow Dele Alli to leave the club in the forthcoming January transfer window contrary to speculations. The speculation has continued to trend because the current coach of the club, Jose Mourinho feels the player has not been working hard enough and doesn’t deserve regular playing time.
Since the commencement of the 2020-2021 season, Jose Mourinho has not featured the 24-year-old English attacking midfielder in the team’s first eleven in the league. Dele has only managed to play two Premier League games this season all from the bench.
However, Mourinho has used him in a total of 8 matches including 4 Europa League games in which he managed to score 2 goals and provided one assist. These stats are not impressive enough for the Portuguese coach, hence, he has continued to suffer a lack of games at the club.
The situation got worse for Dele Alli on December 10, 2020, when Tottenham Hotspur hosted Royal Antwerp in the last group game of the UEFA Europa League. Jose Mourinho decided not to use him in the match and made all the substitutions without considering the England international.
When it became obvious that he would not play the match, he decided to leave the bench to the locker room and returned to the bench towards the end of the Europa League match which ended 2-0 in favor of Tottenham.
At the end of the match, when Jose Mourinho was asked about the incident, he defended Dele, saying the player deserved to walk into the locker room.
“Let’s not run away from the reality, a player on the bench who realizes with five changes he is not one of them, of course, he is not a happy player and I wouldn’t expect him to be,” said Mourinho.
“But every player who is on the bench, or leaves the pitch in cold weather with me, they can go to the dressing room and I even prefer if that happened.”
During the weekend, an unnamed source from the club told Sky Sports that the club wants Dele to remain at the club and urged the player to fight for his place as much as he can.
This is coming amid speculation that the club is willing to allow the England international to leave the Premier League club to join Real Madrid on a 6-month loan in January 2021. The Spanish club is reportedly interested in signing him permanently if Tottenham agrees with the proposal which has not been made official yet.
If Dele Alli who has about 4 years left on his contract with Tottenham doesn’t find a way to get into the plans of Mourinho before January, the club would have no choice but to allow him to go during the January transfer window.

As it stands, the possibility of Dele Alli breaking into the current set-up of Tottenham Hotspur that is doing so well without him in the league is very slim. Dele is most likely to watch from the bench when Tottenham Hotspur visit Selhurst Park Stadium to play against Crystal Palace later today, at 15:15.
