    Tottenham Hotspur have signed Djed Spence, a defender for Middlesbrough, for up to £20 million.

    During his loan season at Nottingham Forest last year, the England Under-21 right-back assisted the team in earning a promotion to the Premier League.

    Spence, 21, has agreed to a five-year contract worth £12.5 million up front and a further £7.5 million in add-ons.

    “I bring excitement, skill, speed. I just want to excite the fans and play well,” the defender said.

    Spence joins goalkeeper Fraser Forster, defender Clement Lenglet, midfielder Yves Bissouma, forwards Ivan Perisic and Richarlison as Antonio Conte’s sixth additions at Spurs this summer.

    Spence, who left Fulham’s academy in 2018 to join Middlesbrough, had three goals in 46 outings for Forest across all competitions the previous year.

    After winning the Championship player of the month and goal of the month honours for March, he was included in the EFL Championship Team of the Season and the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

    Spence remarked: “Last year was a great season, the stuff of dreams really.

    “To play in the Premier League is a dream come true.

    “I am just thankful that I have got here and I am going to get an opportunity to play in the Premier League at a big club like Tottenham.”

    Diop Tehuti Djed-Hotep Spence, an English professional footballer who plays right defender for Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur, was born on August 9, 2000.

    Actress Karla-Simone Spence’s younger brother is named Spence.

    Club career

    Middlesbrough

    Spence previously worked with the Fulham youth before signing with Middlesbrough on July 1st, 2018. On August 14, 2018, he made his Middlesbrough debut against Notts County in the EFL Cup. He came on as a substitute.

    On December 7, 2019, Spence made his league debut for Middlesbrough in a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic. On December 26, 2019, in another 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town, he scored his first league goal.

    Spence received the EFL Young Player of the Month award on January 11, 2020, following his league debut, first goal, and three shutouts.

    Nottingham Forest (loan)

    Spence will join Nottingham Forest on loan for the balance of the season, it was confirmed on 1 September 2021. On October 2, he scored his first goal for Forest in a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City.

    Spence made an impression in FA Cup wins over Leicester City and Arsenal, scoring the fourth in a 4-1 victory over the latter.

    After scoring a long-range goal against Queens Park Rangers, Spence received the EFL Championship Player of the Month title for March 2022 and was also nominated for the Goal of the Month award.

    Spence made it a hat-trick of honors for March 2022 after being nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Season and winning the EFL Young Player of the Month for the second time in his career.

    Spence, who was named to both the EFL Championship Team of the Season and the PFA Championship Team of the Season, was a key member of Nottingham Forest’s promotion-winning squad.

    Tottenham Hotspur

    Spence was signed by Tottenham Hotspur to a five-year contract on July 19, 2022.

    International career

    Spence received his first call-up to the England Under-21 team in March 2022 in preparation for the upcoming Under-21 European Championship Qualifying matches against Andorra and Albania. On March 29, 2022, he made his debut against the latter in a 3-0 triumph as a replacement.
