The UEFA Champions League has always been one of the most prestigious club competitions in Europe. Winning this trophy shows football power and success as a team.
Despite the huge investment by the English team in every transfer window, the Spanish teams still remain the most successful in the tournament, with a total of 20 UCL titles.

1. Spain (20)
Real Madrid and Barcelona have won a combined 20 UCL titles in football history. The Real Madrid side secured their 15th UCL title after defeating Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley.
Barcelona, on the other hand, have secured five UCL titles in the club’s history. The last UCL title for Barcelona came on June 6, 2015.
Atletico Madrid and Valencia were the only two Spanish teams to have been to the final without lifting the title.
2. England (15)
England is the second-most successful country in terms of winning UCL titles. The English teams were able to accumulate a total of 15 Champions League titles in football history.
Manchester United were the first English team to win the Champions League. The Red Devils won the tournament in 1968 after they defeated Benfica 4-1 in London.
United’s second UCL title came in 1999, and the third happened in 2008. They currently have three Champions League titles in their trophy cabinet.
Liverpool won their first UCL title in 1977 after defeating Borussia Monchengladbach. Liverpool currently have six Champions League titles in the club history.
Nottingham Forest have two UCL titles, which they won in 1979 and 1980. In 1982, Aston Villa won the Champions League after defeating Bayern Munich in the final.
Chelsea have two UCL titles. The first one came in 2012, when they defeated Bayern Munich via penalties, and the second one came in 2021, when the team defeated Manchester City by a goal to nil.
Manchester City won their first title in 2023 after defeating Inter Milan in the final.
3. Italy (12)
Italy ranked as the third-most successful country in terms of winning the Champions League. AC Milan were the first Italian team to win the Champions League.
The team won the title in 1963 after defeating Benfica in the UCL Final.
The last time a Serie A team won the Champions League was in 2010, when Inter Milan defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 in the final under Jose Mourinho.
The AC Milan team won the Champions League seven times, Inter Milan won it three times, and Juventus won it twice.
4. Germany (8)
The German Bundesliga team had won it a record eight times, with Bayern Munich being the team with the most UCL titles. The Bundesliga giant won the title six times: Borussia Dortmund once and Hamburger SV once.
5. Netherlands (6)
The Eredivisie teams had won the UCL six times. Ajax remain the most successful team in the country in terms of UCL trophies, with four titles.
Another Dutch team that has won the League is Feyenoord, who won the title in 1970. Also, PSV won the UCL title in 1988.
