Manchester United’s title aspirations were shattered on Saturday when they were defeated 3-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates. Tony Cascarino, the former Chelsea player, has called this Manchester United team the worst in the club’s history.

The result dropped United to sixth place in the Premier League, six points behind Arsenal, with 54 points. Cascarino also stated that after the loss, the Red Devils may not be able to reach their previous low of 64 points, which is the lowest in school history. In a recent interview, he stated, “Manchester United’s poorest Premier League return is 64 points, and if they lose this game, they might not achieve that this season.”

“If they don’t, this Manchester United side will be the worst Manchester United team ever.”

With four games remaining, the Red Devils can still score 12 points, putting them in a position to reach 66 points, but their dismal recent record makes it unlikely that they will win four consecutive games. After a defeat to Arsenal that effectively destroyed their top-four chances, the current Manchester United team has been dubbed the ‘worst in Premier League history.’

Not only that, but the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium ended their worst away run in the league in 41 years, demonstrating just how bad things have gotten for the Old Trafford giants. United performed admirably but was undone by their continued defensive flaws, as the Gunners effectively ruined the visitors’ Champions League hopes.

It’s Ralf Rangnick’s team’s fifth loss in eight games, and it comes on the heels of a humbling 4-0 loss to archrivals Liverpool, which emphasized the gap between the current United team and the Premier League’s top clubs.

If Tuesday’s result was disappointing, the loss to Arsenal highlighted the magnitude of Erik ten Hag‘s assignment when he takes over in the summer. Manchester United has conceded 51 goals in 34 games this season, which is worse than relegation-threatened Burnley.
