Tom Brady has become a minority shareholder in the Championship club side Birmingham City and will also take up the role of chairman of the club’s advisory board.

The 46-year-old NFL legend who call it quits on the sport in February 2023, after more than two decades as a player, has joined a partnership with the club’s new owners Knighthead Capital Management LLC.

Tom Brady will become chairman of the new advisory board at St Andrew’s as confirmed by the Championship outfit.

Following the partnership of the NFL legend, Knighthead co-founder Tom Wagner said; “Tom Brady joining the Birmingham City team is a statement of intent, we are setting the bar at world-class”.

The Blues took to their media page to announce the news that the American has taken over the team earlier this summer.

The quarterback, Brady, was regarded as one of the finest American football players in NFL history. While playing for the New England Patriots, he won six Super Bowls, and in 2021, he won one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs’ 31-14 playoff loss in January marked the conclusion of Brady’s final season before his retirement earlier this year.

Tom will be investing both his money and his considerable knowledge in the team.

Tom’s influence on the club will be felt directly because he is the advisory board’s chair. His expertise will be useful to the men’s, women’s, and academy teams.

Tom has committed to making Birmingham City a reputable leader in nutrition, health, well-being, and rehabilitation throughout the footballing globe.

The team stated Brady will also collaborate closely with the board and management group on international marketing initiatives and the discovery of fresh business partnership prospects.

Brady acknowledged that Birmingham City is an iconic club with so much history and passion and to be part of the Blues is a real honor for him.

He said; “BCFC is built on teamwork and determination and I’m excited to work alongside the board, management, and players to make our Second City club second to none”.

In recent months, several American athletes stars have purchased minority stakes in English football clubs.

In May, former NFL defensive end JJ Watt invested in Burnley, and at the end of the previous year, actor and producer Michael B Jordan did the same at Bournemouth.

Other small shareholders in Leeds United include NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook, American golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, and golfer Jordan Spieth.

In 2021, LeBron James, another prominent NBA player, also join Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the company that owns Liverpool.

What’s next for Birmingham City?

Blues, who were 17th in the Championship last season, will kick off their new season campaign on Saturday, 5th of August, 2023, when they’ll lock horns with Swansea City.
