Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly sought advice from his pal and TV personality James Corden before he hired Frank Lampard as interim manager.
After the Graham Potter debacle, Todd Boehly was forced to shelve his backing and show the former Brighton boss the exit door.
Chelsea needed an interim manager with Bruno Saltor temporarily taking charge in the game against Liverpool.
After Bruno Saltor’s first game incharge, Todd Boehly turned back to Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard for the vacant job on an interim basis.
Lampard will take charge of the Blues until the end of the season when a new manager will be appointed.
The return of Frank Lampard to the dugout at Stamford Bridge has been deemed a timely intervention and suitable pill for the club until a new manager is found.
However, the Sun reports Todd Boehly sought advice from his close friend and content creator James Corden before deciding to hire Frank Lampard.
Corden, who is said to be a talk show host in the US, is a close friend of Todd Boehly.
After he sacked Graham Potter, the American billionaire reportedly turned to James Corden for a recommendation on who should takeover the reins at Stamford Bridge on an interim basis.
Corden, who is also said to be a die-hard fan of one of the London clubs, West Ham, reportedly endorsed the decision to appoint Frank Lampard as manager on an interim basis.
Apart from his relationship with Todd Boehly, James Corden is also said to be a close friend of Frank Lampard and have shared microphone together on a Sky sport show, “A League Of Their Own.”
Hence, Corden would have assented to the decision not as great football analyst but as a loyal pal.
Frank Lampard was sacked as Chelsea manager in 2021 under former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich after a dismal Premier League campaign.
With few games remaining to the end of the season, Lampard have been served a golden chance to right the wrongs of his past managerial spell with the club.
But he opened with a defeat to relegation-trapped Wolves.
Some pundits argue Todd Boehly’s choice of Lampard for the interim is one of the many rash decisions the American investor has taken since taking over as Chelsea owner.
Chelsea are yet to come to terms with his raid on the transfer market which saw the club ballooned with an over-bloated squad that has not yielded result.
While Frank Lampard needs time to prove himself, landing the job because of the recommendation of James Corden can be seen as another big blunder by Todd Boehly.
