Timo Werner has been unveiled as an RB Leipzig player earlier today, August 10, 2022, after spending the last two seasons of his football career at Chelsea.

The former West London forward headed back to the club where he enjoyed four successful years (Leipzig) since he could not establish himself at Chelsea. He is leaving for his homeland having won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA World Cup with the Premier League club.

Timo Werner moves to Leipzig after two seasons at the EPL.

Timo Werner’s contribution to the Champions League triumph in Porto is the apex of his performance for the West London club. Warner’s 12 goals and 15 assists in all competitions in his debut season proved how good he is.

The Blues coughed out £47.5 million to sign Timo Werner from Leipzig back in 2020 but the 26-year-old’s performance did not match the expectations the Blues had when he was bought from the German club. He put on a very disappointing show of just 23 goals out of his 89 appearances for the Premier League side.

Tuchel’s side has decided to sell off the player back to Leipzig, his former club since he didn’t meet up their expectations.

In this summer, the Blues also let Romelo Lukaku leave the club for Inter Milan on a season-long loan. The Belgian forward is to begin the summer at the Seria A after a disappointing time at Stamford Bridge.

Since Werner is leaving for Leipzig, only Kai Havertz and Armando Broja would be the main strikers at the club for now. Thomas Tuchel would have to make do with them until they can sign a striker.

It was reported that Chelsea F.C is eying Benjamin Sesko, the forward of Red Bull Salzburg, who is reportedly linked with the Red Devils and the Anfield’s side, as well as Sasa Kalajdzic from Stuggart.

Recently, Thomas Tuchel revealed that players are wary of taking on the number 9 shirt at the club. According to him, some of the players believe it has been cursed.

The number is currently available since Lukaku has moved to Inter but no player in the team wants to take the shirt, previously worn by the likes of Fernando Torres, Gonzalo Higuain, and Tammy Abraham.

“It’s cursed! People tell me it’s cursed! It’s not the case that we leave it open for tactical reasons or for some players in the pipeline to come in and naturally take it,” said Tuchel, speaking ahead of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Everton in their first game of the new Premier League season.

“There was not a big demand for the number nine. Players sometimes want to change numbers but surprisingly nobody wants to touch it.

“Like, everybody who is longer than me in the club, tells me ‘you know he had the nine and didn’t score and he had the nine and he also did not score.’ Now we have a moment, nobody wants to touch the number nine.”

So, Timo Werner’s run with Chelsea has officially ended. He is expected to kick the ball rolling in Germany this season as he prepares to represent the country in the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

In his farewell message to Chelsea’s fans, Timo Werner wrote:

“Today marks the end of my journey with @chelseafc. I am incredibly grateful for the time I spent at this special club.

“At this point I would like to express my appreciation for my teammates, the coaches & staff, and especially for you, the special supporters of Chelsea Football Club. I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and in challenging times! We lifted trophies like the Champions League together and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me.”

“I’m already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day!
