Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel took a jab at his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, claiming they are no longer good enough to become league champions.
The manager also encouraged his teammates to take the Bundesliga title seriously as the season wind down.
Tuchel wants the club to focus on winning the Bundesliga, which they have won ten times in a row. He went ahead to mention how Paris Saint-Germain took the Ligue 1 title for granted and lost it while he was the manager.
Tuchel concluded that Bayern Munich is fighting for the league title and is not ashamed of that. The manager also claimed that there is still a lot of job to be done.
“We are fighting for the title. We shouldn’t be ashamed of that”, he said. “In Paris, at some point, it was no longer enough to become league champions. It was downplayed. There is a lot of work involved in our day to day.” .
Tuchel spent two years with the Parisians from 2018–2020, where he won the Ligue 1 title twice. However, his failure to win the Champions League made the French team sack him in 2021.
The German manager took them to the Champions League final but lost to Bayern Munich in 2020.
The former Chelsea manager succeeded Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked by the German giant even though they had so far achieved a successful season.
When Thomas Tuchel was appointed, Bayern Munich was in contention for the treble. However, they were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by SC Freiburg 2-1 on April 4, 2023.
The Bavarians were also eliminated from the Champions League on a 4-1 aggregate against Manchester City. It was due to chances missed by the attackers.
Thomas Tuchel had won two matches in the last seven and seemed to be under pressure with the recent Bayern Munich performances.
Although Tuchel’s short time at Bayern Munich has been marred by different crises, if he fails to manage the dressing room exceptionally well, he may get sacked next season.
Historically, Thomas Tuchel has always been capable of winning titles at every club he goes to. He is a decent manager who can make Bayern Munich a difficult team to play against.
Bayern Munich is currently on top of the league with 59 points from 28 matches played. Second-placed Borussia Dortmund has 57 points so far this season.
Bayern Munich had lost points against a team they were expected to beat. The team plays Mainz away from home on April 22, 2023, and cannot afford to drop points again.
If Bayern Munich lose another match and Borussia Dortmund win, that may be the end of their title charge. Borussia Dortmund also have their eyes on the title and will consider winning it.
Thomas Tuchel has to make his players focus and treat every game as important. They need to show character as winners and make sure they don’t end the season trophyless.
